I went to Davenports in Cumberland for the first time about a month ago. I had a nice lunch. I wish I could say the same about the latest experience. On April 6th went for dinner with my husband. The wait was reasonable to get a table.
Our server was not great, but ok. Lacked a bit of personality one would expect. Not impolite; just sort of blah. First thing we did was order appetizer and drinks. Then when he brought drinks we ordered food.
Food came out pretty fast. Problem is that the appetizer never did. Server forgot to put order in. He then did so and said we could order free desserts. Not interested. We don't really easy desserts.
My caesar salad was very unfavorable and had no cheese on it. Simply romaine and tasteless croutons with dressing on side. Nothing I would recommend.
My seafood chowder was lukewarm and the pieces of seafood were cold. Inedible. I'm just guessing, but it seems perhaps that they had a hot pot of soup that someone dumped frozen seafood into. This would cause the temperature of the broth to drop to lukewarm and explain the cold temp of the seafood.
A woman did come over to check on us and she got me a new bowl of chowder as well as our long overdue appetizer..now that we were halfway through with our meal. She said the appetizer was free.
As for my husband , he ordered a roast beef sandwich. It was full of hard to chew and grizzly meat. He said it's one of the worst things he has had in any restaurant in ages. It was one of the specials.
We finished our meal feeling quite disappointed. We paid our bill and gave the server a more than generous tip, giving him the benefit of the doubt as to his lack of polished skills. Perhaps he was having a bad day or was fairly new working there.
Oh, when my husband needed to use the men's room, we learned that they have one bathroom for men and one for women, each with a single toilet. Long wait if you need to use a bathroom.
No plans to ever go back to this place again. Can't understand why...
Read moreI visited here for the first time while visiting my great aunt. She brought me here, saying that this is one of her favorite restaurants in the area. She's been coming for over 10 years! I can definitely see why she's such a loyal customer.
To start, we shared a bowl of their Seafood Chowder. I had to try it after seeing that it had won awards in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2016. It was hands down the best chowder I've ever had. The broth was incredibly creamy, but not too heavy, with a perfect balance of savory flavors.
For my main course, I ordered the Prime Rib Wrap. The prime rib was piled high, juicy, and had just the right amount of spice. It was paired with melted Swiss cheese, peppercorn mayo all wrapped in a warm, crispy tortilla dusted with Cajun seasoning. The combination of textures and flavors was absolutely delicious.
My great aunt opted for her usual, the Baked Scrod, and as always, she raved about it. It's clear that the quality and consistency of the food here keeps her coming back.
The service was also excellent. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. She stopped by frequently and made sure that we were happy with our meals.
I can't wait to...
Read moreI have been a customer of Davenport's for a number of years now. I always loved the quality of the food. I am not sure what has changed but over the last 6 months or so it seems like they don't care about quality or customer service. We have had a number of issues with the Cumberland location, from cold food to missing items ect. Tonight topps it I ordered chicken parmesan and received ice cold rubbery noodles topped by freezing cold chicken without any sauce. I feel like they treat you like the McDonald's drive tru dose, the not our problem it's take out. I have to say that I have never had a bad experience at the EP location, this is the one that we go to when we dine in. We have been going there so long that the staff knows us by name. Unfortunately the deliveries always come from Cumberland, when I call they always pass the blame on doordash. It is still your responsibility to make sure that your customers are satisfied and getting what they paid for. Doordash did not cook my awful meal tonight. It was over $60 for a salad and this dish of yuck. I was trying to post a photo of my dinner but there doesn't seem to be an...
