Once a year my husband and I splurge on an expensive dining experience. It was our 34th wedding anniversary and we decided to take a 2 day trip a few hours from home. In all appearances this place looked great and depending on the reviews you find it also had great food. Trust me when I tell you to research the numerous sites where you can find ALL the reviews. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming as was our waitress. We asked our waitress what the Roast Pork Belly was all about. She informed us it was a large chunk of fat that was seared and covered in a glaze. It sounded wonderful until it got to the table. It was nothing more than a short rib with a small section of fat in the middle. It was good but it definitely was not $15 good. My husband decided on the queen size (12oz) prime rib for $45, it looked pathetically sad and little sitting by itself on a big plate, but he did say it was good. I ordered the $57 (14oz) boneless ribeye and a side of truffle fries for $6. It looked WONDERFUL and I teased my husband that he had just chose poorly. It wasn't long before I had to eat my words because by the time we left there that's all that I had consumed. It was large, tough, dry and flavorless and came out to me sad and alone on a plate just like hubby's. You might be wondering why there was no salad or side on those plates, it's because it doesn't come with ANYTHING. That exuberant amount only covers the cost of the main course, and anything else you have to pay extra for. That is where the truffle fries come in, I mean who eats JUST a steak as an entire meal?? Anyways back to those truffle fries which were more like wedges. It was obvious that they had been frozen before they received their fancy coating of truffle oil. They were cold and hollow in the center that no amount of extra doctoring could cover up. When we finally paid the $140 bill (including tip) we left, and stopped at a vending machine in the motel so I could eat. Is it really too much to ask for a dollars worth of lettuce or potato to be included when ordering a $50 steak??Unless you have money to blow or you are 5 sheets to the wind I don't recommend this place! I posted pictures but for some reason it posted with a different account of mine...
Read moreRocky Gap has been a favorite destination spot for my fiancé and I, since we first visited several years ago. The resort and property itself is beautiful, and the lake views from the restaurant are amazing. However, our main complaint has always been with the quality of food available here, especially since there aren't really any other places to eat nearby if you are staying on property. After our most recent experience, we've decided to forego any future visits (we want to be able to eat where we stay, and we just can't justify eating at this place anymore). To be fair, the food on our prior visit was good--we were very pleasantly surprised. So when we recently decided to book another visit, we anticipated the same quality. Nope. We ate at the Lakeside Grille twice, once at 4pm (dinner menu) and again at 9pm. For "lunch", I ordered the Bucatini. Now, they had just opened for dinner (we were literally the first people seated), so you would think the pasta would be fresh. When it came out, the pasta tasted old, and there was no remnant of the spicy tomato sauce; it was as though they had just boiled tomatoes and mixed them in with the pasta, and there was no seasoning at all. Cost $37. For dinner, they were out of baked potatoes, so we had to order different sides. The mac and cheese was NOT creamy or baked with bread crumbs...it was dry and tasted like it had sat underneath a heat lamp for awhile. My fiancé's filet came out well done instead of medium, took forever for a replacement to come out, and even then it was overcooked--again--and didn't even look like the same cut of meat. We were there over an hour and a half, most of our time spent waiting on literally everything (our server barely came by). The cost of the food, in comparison to what you get (and the quality) is grossly overpriced. Not fine dining in any way, shape, or form. Severely disappointing, as this place...
Read moreI would love to give this restaurant a positive review because the setting and resort itself is absolutely gorgeous...BUT...the food at this resort including this restaurant (and only restaurant) is atrocious. I can honestly say every course including our entire parties entrees were terrible. We started with several appetizers for the table and not only were they lacking flavor but questionable at best. The shrimp cocktail were brown in color and the calamari were thick pieces of something mysterious but definitely not calamari meat. The bread was not only cold but ICE COLD so much the honey butter spread on top of rolls was congealed. Our salads were mediocre at best. The entrees...oh my the entrees...the chef should be embarrassed. Every steak (filet, Ribeye and strip) were overcooked and flavorless. The sides were luke warm at best, dry and tasteless. If our meal was not comped by our host, we would have expressed our concern much more indignant. We did inform the server the entrees were not very good because as restaurant owners ourselves we thought the kitchen staff should know how poorly the dishes were executed. Unfortunately after reading several of the reviews, I'm not sure management nor the chef much care about the quality of food nor the satisfaction of their patrons. It is such a shame because the resort is stunning and it definitely has potential but this restaurant (in my opinion) needs to be reexamined and quality staff (especially in the kitchen, ie. Chef) needs to be considered because charging these prices for the quality of food served...
