I debated about making this post, but thought the establishment should know how disappointed we were with our first experience and unfortunately probably our last. My husband and I were celebrating my birthday. The place is gorgeous (except the Ladies restroom could use some paint), and we were seated in the back room. A young woman came to our table and offered us water (all options available) and asked us what we wanted to drink. She never once introduced herself or said welcome or anything. I thought she was a bus girl. We had her come back to take a drink order because we were still deciding. When she returned, we were ready to order our meal as well. She said she would take our order at that time. I then asked if there were any specials, she said there were, and proceeded to tell us them, after I had to ask. Our first course of the house salad was very good. I ordered the diver scallops which were very good, but lukewarm. The owner or manager had asked us a couple times if everything was good, and I didn’t want to send my entree back at that point because they were very busy and I didn’t want my husband to have his food and me nothing. I like my food hot or at least warm. My husband had the strip steak which was very good, but not the best cut of meat. Fortunately, he is not a big eater and was sharing his steak with me because my portion was small. We then ordered a bourbon and creme brûlée which was burned. Our waitress offered to get us another one and the creme part was not very good, so I said no and she did take that off our bill. We left still not knowing our waitresses name and were very...

We went for a fabulous dinner for valentine's day. Had our reservation and table ready. Our reservation wasn't until 9pm but there were quite a lot of people dining still. Vast selection of martinis, wine by the glass or bottle, and small selection of beer. I ordered a pomegranate martini. Menu was four courses. Soup, salad, entrée, and dessert. We both had lobster bisque - it was delicious and creamy. Would go again just to get the bisque. I had the Caesar salad my partner had house salad. House salad had cranberries, vinaigrette, cherry tomatoes and croutons. For dinner I had the pistachio salmon and my partner the duck duo. Salmon was cooked amazing and melt in your mouth wonderful. Duck was juicy and flavorful. Both of our first time having duck. I had ordered chocolate cake and my partner creme brulee. Unfortunately they ran out of creme brulee (which is not a damper on the fabulous meal -it was valentine's day and late at night) so he opted for cheese cake instead. I took the cake to go but had a bite of cheese cake and it was delicious. Both of use were surprised by the portion size. All the portions were large, I was stuffed after half my salmon. Beautiful old house, was warm and cozy inside. They have a place to hang your coat so you do not have to bring it to your table. Table tops with red candles. Very attentive staff. 10/10 would return. Can't wait for summer to try...

I am so disappointed. In the past we saved this for our anniversaries. Then it was a fine dining classic French intimate restaurant. Expensive yes, but plate licking decadent. Last night was a horrible experience for us. No nice homemade warm bread. It was a stale roll on a plate. We had to ask for bread. Mushroom soup had no flavor or seasonings. Had to ask for salt. No real croutons to be found. A cracker was put on top of the mushroom soup. Crab cake did not have real lump crab as shown in some pictures. Definitely no green on it and just plain blah sauce. Fresh herbs were absent. Rack of lamb...offered only in medium rare or medium. It was served rare. potatoes were underdone, no flavor and no real sauce just a few tablespoons of tasteless juice. This was beneath any chain restaurant you can find anywhere. We used to love Dan's in Reading also. Not sure if rich French food is out. Cost is no longer justified . Right now we still have fresh herbs, peppers and other produce. Not here. We left. I question why we are the only ones who seem to leave a bad review? Wish I had talked to the chef whoever he/she was. We were the only ones there at first so the pressure was not on them to do a nice presentation with rich sauces and fresh foods. What happened to the elegant waiters and waitresses...

Walking into Dan's doesn't feel like you're going into a restaurant, rather, it feels like you're going into a friend's house. The staff are excellent, from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. We were ushered to a seat in the back of the restaurant where we got to see the Christmas tree outside. We ordered shortly after being seated and the meal didn't take long to start coming. I ordered the crab cake for the 1st plate and it was DELICIOUS! My water glass never emptied and the waiters and waitresses refilled it probably 8-10 times. The second course, the lamb, was fantastic. On the bone lamb with potato wedges and green beans. My only thought was that the potatoes could have been done a little better. They didn't have the best texture in my opinion. The dessert was an apple crumb pie with vanilla caramel ice cream. I don't know how I had room for it after the main course, but I somehow fit it in. I definitely recommend this restaurant for any holiday, special event, or celebration.

Service is very good, all the staff are very polite and attentive. I had the caesar salad (5/10) to start. It’s hard to mess up a salad in my opinion, I was not a fan of the dressing that was used for the salad. I also had the french martini (5/10). I had the shrimp jambalaya (8/10) and my husband had the lamb chops (8/10). There were at least 3 large ants that made their way onto our table that we had to brush off, so not a great first impression for first time guests. A staff member said he wasn’t sure where the ants were coming from but nonetheless, it wasn’t pleasant to see. We finished our plates for the most part simply because we weren’t paying that much money to just leave hungry but this isn’t somewhere we will frequent again.
