A Scenic Escape for a Casual Meal in Dahlonega
After a few days of camping at Amicalola Falls, we were ready for a change of scenery and cuisine. The Hideaway Restaurant, located about a 20-minute drive away, seemed like a promising option. The journey itself is a highlight, winding through the beautiful North Georgia mountains and setting a relaxing tone for the evening.
Ambiance and Service
The restaurant is part of a larger resort complex that appears to host corporate meetings and events, giving the area a secluded, retreat-like feel. Inside, the restaurant's decor is pleasant and casual—not overly fancy, but clean and fitting for its mountainside location.
What truly stood out was the service. The staff was exceptionally friendly and genuinely helpful, patiently guiding us through the menu and offering recommendations. Their warm hospitality made us feel welcome right away.
A Look at the Food
Our meal was a mixed experience, with some decent dishes and a few that missed the mark for our party.
Appetizer: We started with the Brussels sprouts. While we appreciated the attempt at a bold flavor, they were a bit too sour for our personal taste. Main Courses: The Chicken Sandwich was a solid choice—a satisfying and straightforward classic. The accompanying fries, however, were just average. My kids ordered the pasta, which they found to be a little too oily for their liking, though the flavor was otherwise agreeable. Dessert: We had high hopes for the Banana Pudding, but it was unfortunately the low point of the meal. The texture was inconsistent, suggesting it was both under and overcooked in different spots. Ironically, the simple scoop of ice cream served alongside it was the most enjoyable part of the dessert.
Final Thoughts
The Hideaway Restaurant offers a decent meal in a beautiful and convenient location, especially for those staying at nearby state parks like Amicalola. The friendly service and scenic setting are definite pluses.
However, it's best to visit with measured expectations. While some menu items are perfectly enjoyable, others might not consistently hit the mark. Think of it as a reliable spot for a casual bite rather than a destination for a gourmet culinary experience. If you're in the area and looking for a comfortable place to eat with a lovely view, it's worth...

My boyfriend and I hiked all the way up to The Top of the Falls at Amicolola. We were ready for a good dinner when we got back down and decided to give Hideaway a shot. We don't know the area. We thought we were in the wrong place at first but found it near the top of the hill. Such a cute setting, pleasant atmosphere. Reggie greeted us when we walked in and gave us the ins and outs. He's the chef and was also doubling as the greeter. Super friendly and welcoming. Felt like we knew him for years. He treated us like regulars. He took us to The Secret Garden, which is a quiet, intimate setting for smaller parties. Such a surprise and delight! Stephanie was a great waitress. She works her butt off and does a great job. We ordered brussel sprouts, stuffed mushroom, meatloaf, and fried chicken. And brownie bites for dessert. Everything was good and the brussels, fried chicken, and brownie bites were our faves. We didn't want to leave this property and wished we were...
Read moreI found this restaurant on Maps. I read a couple of reviews, but I decided to go. Let's start with the location. The restaurant is beautiful and there's no plastic chairs or furniture which I appreciate. It's a family-friendly restaurant. Today is May 10th, so there wasn't a menu, just a buffet. The cost was $108 for two people. About the price... Believe it or not... The taste of the food covers the price (amazing). But the service was very slow, and the buffet line was 25-30 minutes long to get your plate. At first, we were told that a lot of staff called out... Which I have observed latent even in fast food restaurants. But... Maybe for mother's days... They should plan it better. Well.... Let's be happy and honestly Thank God I can spend 108 dollars on a buffet for...
