JJs is an Ohio treasure and was a random find on our mini honeymoon to the Marblehead/Port Clinton/Put-in-Bay area. 5 out of 5 From the complementary home made chips and salsa to the drinks, dinner and dessert.
As i get older the more i see and appreciate attention to details.
The complementary chips and salsa are amazing compared to any thing i had. Not your bulk bought slop most if not all other places i have been to use. Nice authentic home made style.
The drinks are crafted with a lot of care for the taste, presentation and functionality. I have never been to a place that makes drinks this good from infusing smoke into the drinks, drip pouring with a filter and finely ground coffee, to the decorative flowers and use of spherical ice to keep a drink from getting watered down. My favorite drinks to date. And best bang for the buck. A few dollars more than other places that just slop it together with next to no presentation.
I order the crusted walleye and substituted the side with brussel sprouts. The best I had with great presentation. The walleye was nice size fillet season perfectly to my taste, tender and flaked apart perfectly. The sprouts where just as good with perfect carmelazation and flavor.
The dessert was also awesome. A huge piece of carrot cake. I do not think you can find better carrot cake anywhere else. The texture and flavor was incredible. You could see all the key ingredients in the cake. Like the shaved carrots to the ground nuts in the cake. The frosting was also very smooth and tasty!
Summary I highly recommend it to anyone that appreciates the extra details and understands the work it takes to achieve it. JJs may not be for people with simple tastes like those that only like cheap beer and fried chicken fingers. Its well worth the money and i will be back with my wife at least once a year hopefully more! :) We live about an hour and a half away.
Keep up the...
Read moreJJ's is a "must go" restaurant for so many reasons. They've transformed what may have been a (popular??) breakfast and lunch joint that admittedly was a bit dated and needing improvements - into a GREAT evening choice with a warm atmosphere - while still going through some growing pains. (think it's going to be their 4th season here this summer (?))
Numerous drink selections, appetizers, and meal choices that constantly are changing and updated - with a lot of local ingredients. Owners are always welcoming and engaging with customers - but even then, cut them a break folks, they can't be there EVERY minute of the day.
Cheeseake desserts are the absolute best - but order early, as unfortunately they sell out quickly.(which validates how GOOD it is !!)
We all take 'ownership' when a business moves in - we like to take friends and family to the local place that's doing things right. We go there, we enjoy there, and we laugh there, JJ's does it right. We've never left there disappointed
JJ's opened when Covid hit. They more than quickly adjusted and accomodated amidst it all - and since then they've expanded within just a couple years - can't imagine the initial costs, let alone the "permit" process with township and county.
There're so many other good reasons to frequent JJ's - we enjoy it every time we go there - and by the way, their burgers are the...
Read moreWow. Can I give this place 6 stars? We've been there twice now, and the first time was a fluke, but it will definitely be a regular stop from now on. The first time was in February and they were a bit slower, we sat at the bar, had a great meal and unequalled service! Our more recent visit was last week and it was an amazing experience too. I had the pork belly appetizer (which could have been a meal in itself) and it was wonderful. Cooked just right and presentation was an A+! For dinner I had the surf and turf - both the shrimp and filet were wonderful, but the risotto stole the show! I'm a bit of a risotto snob, and this was some of the best I have ever had. I just finished my leftovers today for dinner. The servings are large and I promise you will have left overs too. For dessert, a piece of homemade carrot cake! Wow, just wow! The service was great again too. The waitress was knowledgeable and willing to offer suggestion - which I always appreciate. She was attentive and friendly. If I had to offer a knock, it would be that they bring the food out a bit too quickly. I like a casual meal that is an experience and it seemed a bit rushed at times, but i am confident they would slow it down a bit if you requested it from your server. I have zero reservations about recommend this restaurant! Can't...
