Birthday dinner. Looked forward to enjoying time with my guy as we don’t have much time together. We were very early as we enjoyed our ride taking in the sights along the way. I long to be around water and atmosphere as I spent my life as crew on a yacht. I am currently a server at a seafood restaurant and an elderly care giver so I was looking forward to a relaxing time. I explained to the hostess we were early and wanted to sit outside to take in the views and cocktails before coming inside to dine. It was an awkward start as she followed us outside with menus and roll ups. There was a slight breeze so we busy trying to keep the paper menus anchored. Although there was a beer and wine paper I asked the server if there was a drink menu, She stated she didn’t think so as she was new and asked if there was something I had in mind. Expresso martini for me and margarita for him. As we waited for our drinks we looked over the menus as to keep them from flying away. We then saw on one of the paper there was a box of specialty drinks and an expresso martini foofoo was on it. I was looking forward to having a drink since it had been a long time that since I had been the recipient of service. Drinks were a bit disappointing. As I sipped mine (tasted like chocolate milk not a martini) he had finished and was ready for another and we waited patiently for the server. When she came she was ready to take food order but we explained our plan to go inside as we were outside to relax with a few drinks. Since we had waited so long with no server in sight for another cocktail we decided to go inside to have dinner at that point. The bar was full and one table in dining room. Since there was only 2 servers we had the same girl. We ordered appetizers calamari and mussels. Calamari was over cooked fried mess with a surprise piece of artichoke. And mussels were nothing to talk about. We needed more cocktail sauce to choke down calamari but no server inside they were outside. He ordered a LIT with no sour mix just the splash of coke like he always does and it had slight hint of alcohol but tasted like flat soda syrup. It took awhile for server to check on us. It seemed like a long time (as there was no music for ambience just the bar crowd noise and a guy walking in the dining room on his phone) As I had a glass of wine I suggested he stick with simple selection like a beer. I ordered a second glass of wine bc it was bday and I wanted to indulge. The french onion soup came out and it was a treat. Sever said she was still waiting on the wine. Entree came out Scallops and tidbits which was tasty but still waited on wine. It was a buzz kill. When I told people my plan to go to Angelos….the remarks were “It could be a hit or miss”. Server was friendly and I have empathy for her being new as she tried her best. I saw the two servers on rotation working inside/outside. Not efficient. I assume the hostess was new and uncertain what to do as she stood her post with no one coming in the door. No manager to be found. Team work would helpful. Well this was a big miss. I envisioned a nice evening. To be fair it’s hard to get a bang for your buck...
Read moreOur experience form beginning to end- First we waited, and waited, and waited in the lobby for one of several employees notice we existed and show us to a table. They were VERY slow on this particular day. Once we got our table, it was dirty. The host said he would be right back to clean it off for us, even though there were plenty of tables empty and clean around us, we somehow ended up with this one. We never saw him again, and no one came by the clean it off. My husband and I are not super picky, so we let this slide. After about five minutes, we get our server, who takes our drink order only to go totally missing for almost 15 minutes! My husband actually noted the time on his cell phone! All we ordered was an ice water, and a coke! The side plates we were given were wet and had tomato seeds still on them! Eventually, a girl comes over to ask us if we needed help. she kindly got us our drinks, and told us a server would be with us soon. We had to ask for straws, however, which we had to wait for while she got some, and our drinks were filled about 80% of the way up. Another five minutes or so later (reasonable amount of time, i suppose for a dead restaurant) we get a waitress. We both order spicy jalapeno burgers, both medium, and I had asked for a side of sauce to go with mine. The spicy jalapeno burger is $1.00 extra because it has pepper jack cheese and jalapenos. Would you believe this was not the end? When our food finally arrives, not only was my burger WELL done, it was charred on the sides, there were no jalapenos in either of our spicy JALAPENO burgers (wow! well worth the extra dollar!) Not to mention my side sauce was totally forgotten. I was given a refill of my water (the first one came out with lemon, the second one without) this time in a dirty cup! there was actually food particle left inside! :( gross! There are little things all over this place that lack in consistency, have not been updated in ages, or just need general maintenance. The Angelos family WERE good, but as an ex-regular at Hillside Grill in Morristown, I am afraid The Point has adopted the bad customer care and lack of knowledge the management has had at Hillside the last year or so. No consistency anywhere to be seen. I understand it is a mom and pop sort of place, but you would think for the years of being in business, and the resources out there for people who may not have any formal knowledge in how to operate a business; they would at least TRY to act like they care about the customer. Me and most of the people in my office have stopped going to Hillside, and have taken them off our preferred dining list for out of town visitors, and after the experience today, so is the...
Read moreWhen we moved to this area 3 years ago, everyone we met told us both Angelo's and Cowboy's were bad. We went to Angelo's and it was fantastic.. borderline amazing. The food at least. The service was meh. And, we had come by jetski and had to traipse through the bar and restaurant to go to the parking lot entrance, to be seated outside.. where we had entered. So, there was that. But the food was good and it wasn't some fluke. We ordered the seafood platter for 2 and it had 5 or 6 different items and they were all hot and all cooked to perfection.. not an easy feat and it was a real test. The peanutbutter pie was fantastic too.
The next time we went, we brought a group of 9 and we went for Brunch. We showed up when they opened and apparently the night shift had left the mess from the night before; dirty tables, unwashed dishes, and the morning shift was showing up and flipping out over it.
So, we had a 40 minute delay before they could help us. Not a really big deal because when we did get served, everyone had a really good meal. We have been back 3 or 4 more times over the past 2 years and the food was great every time.. and unfortunately the service was poor to average, every time. Always a lot of excuses. They blame the kitchen, usually. 🙄
We have gone when their schedule said they were open, and found they were closed. This happens more in the off-season. We have never experienced that during the summer. But, it happens in the winter. If it happens to you, I recommend Captain's Galley off Hwy 92 at I-40.
■■ Be warned, sometimes Angelo's closes the kitchen early.. like 7 or 8 pm. So, although it says they are open til 10 pm, you can't always come in at 7:45 pm and get seated for dinner, they will turn you away. ■■
I probably should have given them a 3.. but the food is a 5, the service is a 2 and the cleanliness is maybe a 4. Parking is great for cars, but it is unfortunate that the restaurant and marina aren't on good terms and the restaurant does not have a dock for take out food or to park and eat. You are at the mercy of the marina and if tell them you are there for Angelo's.. you are more of an annoyance to them.
The marina was charging $10 to park your boat on the waterfront side and prohibiting parking on the marina side of the boardwalk, last time we were there. • That may have changed. • Be sure to look for signs because I have heard stories of the marina impounding boats parked in member spaces, which is their right to do. So, just be aware that there is tension there that you are putting...
