Roma Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Danville

Not too shabby, it was decent, mediocre to say the least. We traveled 45 minutes looking for the Italian taste I’ve been missing (being a Yankee,) all to be disappointed in the end. The foh customer service was phenomenal, truly exceptional. She was genuinely sweet hearted and cared about our experience. Boh would just stare, no smiling faces from them at all. Food… where do I start? I had a fairly large order: chicken parm sub, kids meal, personal pizza with mushrooms, steak and cheese stromboli with mushrooms and onions, and a cheeseburger. Chicken parm was a huge disappointment, why serve frozen chicken tenders with rib meat? (tasted like spongy rubber) You’d expect a traditional chicken breast cutlet that’s hand breaded and fried. So foh replaced it with a turkey and cheese sub that was more bread than cold cuts. Ehh it was okay, wouldn’t get it again. Pizza and Stromboli: the mushrooms are sincerely the best canned marinated mushrooms I’ve tasted. Dough was most likely frozen and thawed out, no chew in the crust whatsoever. Stromboli wasn’t a long formed baked stuffed bread as I remember, just folded over like a calzone. Cheeseburger and kids meal were decent, no complaints. Takeout calzone: stuffed with mushrooms, peppers, onions, and jalapeños was tasty, the ricotta was a must. All in all if we were to ever return it’d be just for the calzone and the wonderful foh customer service. Nothing more...

The past few times me and my wife have ordered food from Roma’s it has been really good. My issue arises when I arrive to pay for my food. I never keep cash as it’s not the smartest way to pay for anything nowadays. I almost always pay with my debit card. Roma's has started charging a 3.5% surcharge on everything that is not paid with cash. Per Visa; surcharges are a fee to recoup costs associated with processing credit cards and are only supposed to be applied to credit cards and not debit cards. Roma’s is also doing this in a way that does not show the surcharge on your receipt. Debit card surcharges are prohibited in the state of Virginia. They should only apply to credit cards transactions. I really love the food here but this isn’t right. I am guessing people paying with debit cards; know nothing about this and thus say nothing. This is mine and my wife’s favorite Italian pizza place. Food is delicious and service is always top notch! Owner is friendly and makes sure each order is taken care of properly. Prices have gone up since they opened but you have to keep in mind; food prices for them have also gone up. They have to make that money back somehow. I think out of 100 times we have gotten food here; only once was my order messed up. I normally get a steak and cheese with fried onions, mushrooms and marinara sauce.
