Ruben's Restaurant — Restaurant in Danville

Ruben’s hands down still has some of the best food in Danville! Restaurant still has the same old charm it always has. My only issue is wait time for food and lack of service from waitresses. When Ruben was still alive and running the restaurant there was a level of care for the customers; that feels like is missing now. My wife chose Ruben’s for her birthday because she wanted a hot hamburger with gravy and fries 🤤. We arrived around 6:00pm and they were not overly packed but still busy. We sat ourselves; not once greeted by any staff. A young waitress came to our table and asked us what we wanted to drink. An older lady came right behind her and said she was taking this table. Not something I would think an employee should do in front of customers but whatever. The second waitress brought our drinks and took our order which was just 2 hot hamburgers with gravy and fries add 2 slices of tomato on the side for one of those. We sat there for over 25 minutes with no one coming to refill our drinks or letting us know the progress of our food. 35 minutes later the second waitress is coming to our table with plates in hand. She sits the food down along with silverware and walks away. The first younger waitress comes to the table and asks if our food is okay and if we needed refills. This was the last time we saw any waitress during our visit. Needles to say; we didn’t leave a tip; as a tip is a sign of gratitude for services received. I have been coming to Ruben’s almost my entire life and have never had this type of service here nor at Ruben’s Too. I don’t know if the second waitress was having a bad day or what was going on but it left me and my wife not wanting to come back. Don’t get me wrong! Food was great; like always, but the service was lacking thanks in part to the second older waitress that just had to take our table for...

This is the worst place I have ever been to. Just looked up good restaurants in Danville and this popped up so I said y not try it....... Needless to say that was a mistake. Wasted 30 mins for a table and when we got a table and we ordered our drinks the tea was terrible. Then wasted 30 more mins on our food for our waitress to come and tell us they are out of biscuits that will take 10 more mins to cook so changed for toast thinking that would be faster......... Well that want true either still waited 10-15 on toast. And don't order a pancake for heavens sake because they taste like they warm then up on a plastic plate then bring them to you on a different one with a plastic taste left on your food. The only thing that was worth it was their bacon. The prices were ok if the food would have been worth it. I will be never coming back to this...

This resturant holds a special place for me i use to come here with my dad as a kid. Back then the food was good Ruben has been gone for some time now but i am happy to say the place has never cjhanged they stuck to the principells that made it what its always been. Down hoem good food great burgers fries hotdogs and just about anything you want to order will be good. i have never been disapointed with a meal here. As far as the staff goes i have always been treated like family when i have come in the always greet me and are great at waiting on your needs. your cup will never go emty unless you tell them you don't want anymore. lol Long story short if you have never been then what are you waiting for the food is great the staff a re kind and you will leave with a full belly and a smile...
