Finding a healthy, vegan option proved very trying for our son's wedding rehearsal dinner in Harrodsburg, KY. With the bride being vegan, we struggled for months securing the perfect meal. We stumbled across Zaytoon Mediterranean and became increasingly ecstatic. Reama and Chef Mahmoud were beyond accommodating. Their communication was clear, concise and professional. We worked together to feed our 30 guests. Chef Mahmoud made: Hummus, Falafel, Tabouli, Fatoush, Chicken and Beef Shawarma and 2 kinds of rice. If I had to use just one word to describe the food? SUPERB! My father's family is from the same region as Chef Mahmoud. I have eaten a ton of Mediterranean food in my time but Chef knocked this out of the park. Literally. The Hummus is like nothing I've ever had. It was the smoothest, silkiest, best flavor ever! The tabouli...was just like my Tete used to make! (Bet the kibbee is, too.) The Falafel was light, fluffy and cooked to perfection! And presentation???....BEAUTIFUL! Chef Mahmoud catered our party of 30 as if he were catering for his own family. Everyone will be talking about this rehearsal dinner for a very long time to come. We highly, highly recommend Zaytoon Mediterranean Restaurant. You should definitely stop in and try this amazing food! And... if you are hosting an event, consider Zaytoon Mediterranean first! Fresh, delicious,...
Read moreZaytoon’s food is really good. The problem is that consistently they sell out of basic items - like chicken shwarma - very early in the day.
I’ve now been or considered going 4 times in the last 3 weeks. 2 times chicken shwarma was available and delicious, but just after receiving our order we heard them tell another patron they were already out (at 5:30pm, well before dinner rush). One time we ordered two orders, only to receive one because they ran out for the other. And today when we called at 5:13 on Sunday, they were already out as well.
I totally understand if there are limits to the quantities they cook and trying to reduce food waste and keep costs down. But being out of main menu items so consistently is very frustrating as a customer who enjoys their food.
Edit: I’m updating this review since they’ve been doing a lot better about managing this recently. I’m really impressed and wholly...
Read moreWhat a gem! A five star isn't really high enough compared to most places in Central KY. We hadn't planned on stopping in the day we did, but our original plans fell through and we were looking for something a bit different. Very glad we did.
If you have traveled in the Eastern Med and have been longing for something authentic from the region, you simply must check this place out. It is the closest thing to authentic you will find in the U.S. outside of an ethnic neighborhood in a major city. It makes no sense that this place is in Danville, KY. I hope that the locals will appreciate just what they have here. I will definitely be back my next time through the town.
One note: This is a counter-service joint, closer to street than high society in atmosphere. But the food is fantastic and the staff was helpful...
