I am not from this area, so this was truly a local hidden gem! Originally, when my friend and I punched in the address, it brought us to a field of grass, but when we corrected it to Willowbrook, we finally found it. Honestly, if you are driving too fast you could pass up the entrance!!
It is located in a small strip mall. Definitely has a lot of parking available as I did not see any other restaurants near it. They offer indoor seating with the option of tables or bar seating and they have an outdoor patio with a few tables. The bar does have TV’s as well if you wanted to watch a game. The artwork painted on the walls and some of the decor made it feel like a part of Mexico. The art work was very detailed, I loved the skeleton Mariachi. The Atmosphere in general is welcoming and casual.
We were greeted right away and had the option of indoor or outdoor seating. They have complimentary chips and salsa, which was not bad, however, the salsa needed more salt. Also, I personally like spicy food, it was not spicy at all which I know is good for others that don’t like spice. They have a wide variety of authentic Mexican dishes on the menu, even seafood! They have a variety of beverage alcoholic and non options as well. We came to celebrate one of my best friend’s birthday so of course we had to try the margarita! Since I am expecting, I had a virgin of course, which is literally just all sweet, but it was so delicious and HIGHLY recommend to order/try while your there.
For food: We tried as an appetizer their queso fundido with chorizo. Now if you normally order queso fundido or chorizo in general, you know that it is always hit or miss. It was so delicious, good flavor, cooked perfectly, fresh chorizo and the cheese had the perfect “pull”. It was also served on a hot skillet. I personally would have been fine without the tomatoes, but the presentation was nice. The queso fundido does come with flour tortillas, but we had it with our chips instead.
For dinner, both entrees came with rice and beans which were good. My best friend ordered the Milanessa de pollo, which is a popular dish in many Mexican restaurants or at home! This is another dish that can be hit or miss. It is breaded chicken if you haven’t Had it before and my friend said it was good and she enjoyed the Chile it came with. I ordered the tampiqueña, which is another popular dish at Mexican restaurants. The meat was cooked perfectly had good flavor and the enchilada sauce on the enchilada was delicious! Also, enjoyed my papas.
Overall, good experience, definitely a gem, everything was cooked good, good flavor and authentic. I recommend if you are in or around the area. The only con is that it is overpriced. I understand with the impact of COVID, so happy to help them, but if your on a budget, it is pricey. For two of us, with dinners, 1 app and 1 alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage, it...
Read moreabsolutely HAVE to check out this amazing Mexican place I stumbled upon completely by accident! I was starving and just wandering around when I spotted it. Seriously, the nicest waitress greeted me – she was so friendly and attentive, totally on top of everything.
I went for the nachos with al pastor – OMG, so good! My throat was a bit scratchy, so I asked for some tea, and they totally hooked me up with a HUGE chamomile tea – what a lifesaver! And the food? Let's just say they weren't shy with the guacamole – it was piled high! I couldn't even finish it all, it was THAT much food.
The atmosphere was incredible too! They played this awesome mix of music – Tejano, disco, Mexican, even some new age stuff. It was such a fun, vibrant vibe, and the seating was super comfy. The whole place felt really authentic and cultural.
Trust me, you NEED to try this place! You...
Read moreUnder new management/ownership and you can tell the difference! The name changed from El Tequilazo to Tequila Azteca…last visit was June 2024…first of all, the tortilla chips are horrible, not authentic, the side order of guacamole cost $16! The carne asada plate cost $26 and service was very very SLOW! They attempted to charge us for 6 margaritas when we ordered 4 and at $15 each we caught the overcharge. We were very disappointed - I did ask whether the business changed owners because there was a name change and it was affirmed. We LOVED the previous owner and wish him well but we will NOT be going back. Huge loss on our part because we really...
