Cracker Barrel Old Country Store — Restaurant in Davenport

Long wait and slow service. Food was average.

We visited Cracker Barrel in Davenport for dinner the other day (5/25/2023) and I have to edit my review.

We visited for dinner at around 7:00pm. They were not very busy so you would expect that the experience would be good. It wasn't... The server was friendly but not very attentive. One person on our party of three wanted biscuits and gravy. A staple at Cracker Barrel right? We were told that they no longer sell biscuits and gravy. What? We were told that you get biscuits at no charge with your meal. So, we asked if we could just get some gravy on the side. Nope. You have to order something that comes with gravy. Long story short, we never got any gravy. She wouldn't help us. She did say that we would get biscuits with our food and there was no charge for them. More on that in a bit. I ordered Southern Fried Chicken. When it came, it was barely warm, dry, tough, and appeared to have been sitting under warming lamps for a few hours. It was not freshly fried, or even fresh. The coating was so hard that it broke into pieces when I tried to eat it. It was definitely over done and as I said, the chicken was very dry. I didn't even eat it all. It wasn't good. My wife had a combo plate with meatloaf and a chicken tender. Her chicken was the same way. I tried the meatloaf and it had very little taste. At least it wasn't dried out. The biscuits we got were good but we had to ask for butter. By the time we got it, the biscuits were cold. Bottom line... I should have sent the chicken back and asked for fresh chicken but it was already getting close to 8:00 so I didn't. The service was marginal and the server didn't want to make any effort to help us out beyond what she was required to do. Oh, the "no charge for the biscuits that come with your food" biscuits? There was a $3.00 charge on the bill for the biscuits. We won't be eating dinner at Cracker...

We had a party of three for last night. Two had the grandma's sampler and the other had the steak and shrimp. Besides our party, there were about 2 other parties in the entire restaurant. We were the first to order out of everyone. We waited 30 minutes while everyone else was done eating for our food to arrive. No one, in the 30 minutes, came and checked on us or apologized for the wait. The sampler plates were not what they were suppose to be. One of the grandma's sampler plates had pancakes that had black chunks from that grill that made the pancakes taste weirdly fish-like. The eggs were ordered over-easy but one was under-cooked a bit and one was over-hard. In general, the food could have been way warmer. The only thing that was decent was the piece of bacon. The other sampler plate was with french toast. Again, it had weird chunks from the grill that made it taste fish-like. The eggs were not quite over-easy, either. In-fact, one of the eggs was broken when it was received. The temperature, again, could have been way hotter. The steak and shrimp plate was by far the most appalling. It was ordered as medium. When the steak arrived, it was fully red. The shrimp was alright. Again, everything should have been way hotter. I would hazard to guess and say that the plates were forgotten about for long while. I have good knowledge about how kitchens are run. I don't know if it was someone new, filling in at a different station, understaffed, drama...You get the point. Overall, it was disappointing. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU EXPECT TO EAT HOT FOOD FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY. RAISE PRICES CUT DOWN ON PORTIONS!! TWO of us got grandpa special: food was cold. The eggs were not done. Sent it back it had the same spoon in the grits it that went back with. I WAS APPALLED!! Sister ordered the grandma special. Pancakes and her food was cold. Food took 25 minuted to bring it to the table the first time. Brought it back ( manager) says 4 minutes food and guess what? The food was still cold. I think they put it in the microwave. You don't know if they make it fresh. She tried telling us it was fresh. If it were fresh the butter would be melting . It was not. Still in the glob on top of the pancakes. Come on now if it was fresh the food would be steaming hot. Plates were hot but that's about it. We will NEVER be back. Manager is worthless. She don't care. She act like it was a chore to correct HER employees mistakes. Then you wonder why NICE places like this close. Waitresses stand around and talk. Don't take care of their tables. ONE WAS PLAYING WITH HER HAIR, DONT KNOW IF SHE WASHED HER HANDS BEFORE SHE BROUGHT OUT SOME ONE'S MEAL. The table next to us was cleared for 25 minutes. 3 people ate at the table.
