Okay, now I know why this place is always busy! First time dining at this establishment and I’m surprised I haven’t tried this place before. Food was delicious! I ordered the Reuben sandwich with fries and slaw. The sandwich was tasty and not soggy at all! A mistake most restaurants in the QC area make is not squeezing the sauerkraut, thus leaving the sandwich soggy and unappetizing so I thank you Machine Shed for getting that right. The coleslaw was fresh and creamy and the fries were tasty as well. And as good as the meal was, it wasn’t the star of the night, that title goes to the amazing bread pudding. OMG!!!! First off, it’s hard enough to find any establishment that even offers bread pudding let alone one that does it extremely well! I added cinnamon ice cream to the order and with the first bite, instant smile on my face! It was soooooooo good!! I was on a date night with my fiancé who doesn’t like bread pudding from previous experiences yet I was able to talk her into trying it and let’s just say she had more than that one bite😂 I give service 4 stars only because I was never asked if my drink needed refilled and never received any straws. Aside from that, our server was pleasant and always smiling. 3 stars for atmosphere because it was insanely loud. As if everyone were trying to talk over one another. I felt like they needed someone there with a whistle to calm the crowd. Which was surprising to me considering this restaurant has a lot of older customers. All in all, we will be back to try other items on the menu and I will have another date night…..With that bread pudding! 😂

We had a fantastic meal here after a 12 hour travel day. We were greeted warmly with smiles from the staff. After we ordered our meals they brought two sides for the table to share. We chose the baked apples and cottage cheese. We were all tired and starving so the quick start to the meal from our warm friendly server was very much appreciated. We were also served a beautiful basket of warm bread for the table, including a delicious apple cinnamon bread. Our group tried the chicken pot pie, the roasted stuffed Iowa chop, the Heartland combo and the country fried chicken. It was all amazing. The portions were huge, and we are all big eaters! The stuffed Iowa pork chop was the size of a roast. The chicken was juicy and tender. The Parmesan encrusted pork was the favorite at our table. The chicken pot pie was very tasty as well. We all shared the chocolate ganache cake and banana cream pie for dessert even though we were stuffed from our dinner. The cake is layers upon layers of decadence. The banana cream pie was nice and light and the perfect sweetness with the graham cracker crust. The Machine Shed has a warm home town farm atmosphere. There is lots of fun decor and plenty of photo opportunities with the family. There is also a cute little shop. We love this place and will now make it a mandatory stop every time we drive through the great state of Iowa. We will for sure recommend this place to family and friends.

For starts, this place is kind of a hit and miss. In this time around, I got the chicken dinner, and my fiancè got the Brisket sandwich. Usually, that doesn't fail us at all. We like to get the brisket potato skins as a starter, but as in the picture, they were quite overcooked. Sometimes, when we go here, our servers are quite nonexistent, so to have our potato skins corrected was a bit of a hassle. I've tried the Mac N Cheese here before, and it was REALLY bland, so I didn't eat any of it at all. It was such a waste. Highly recommend not getting it unless you want something flavorless. We've encountered silverware that had food pieces left over on it along with our water pitcher. It was corrected, but I was not impressed. I'm sad that the bread got downsized, and it's like $5 or more to get 1 small loaf of bread and some mini cuts of some applesauce bread if you want a basket. The salad bar was quite gross with flies and had very limited options. The women's bathroom there is quite pathetic, as only one sink with very little water pressure works. To wrap it up, from when I read the health inspection reviews from January of this year, it seems as if my fiancé and I won't make a return anytime soon due to some concerns. The booths are such back killers, just a PSA to anyone with back problems. We used to really love going here for a quick lunch, but it seems as if a lot of things need to be resolved before we pay another visit.

Such a great restaurant! Love the farm theme. Food was delicious. I have been craving fresh vegetables as we have been traveling, but was not having much luck finding them, this restaurant solved that problem. They have a beautiful salad bar, with all of the fixins, and several specialty salads, like Cole slaw, potato salad, broccoli salad, and pea salad. If you get the salad bar you also get a cup of soup. I chose the potato soup and it was so yummy. Big chunks of potatoes and celery and sprinkled with cheese and bacon. Truly tasted like the best homemade version of potato soup. My husband got the brisket sandwich with mashed potatoes. He loved it and highly recommends it. The brisket was fall apart tender and the crispy onions were a nice addition. My son got a cheeseburger and asked for just carrots for his side. It can come with the vegetable of the day which today was mixed veggies, but he only wanted carrots. Instead of telling him he had to get the mixed veggies, the server went and got him a dish of pot roast carrots. How sweet of her to take care of him like that. Oh, and they even gave my son a free quarter to get a gumball after lunch. Just a great restaurant and so lovely to be well cared for when traveling. Thank you!!! My only complaint is thar they don't have a location in central Ohio, so that we can go back regularly!

The Machine Shed has exceptional country decor to make your visit interesting. My waitress was polite, attentive, and did a good job overall. She stopped by often to check on me, but not too often to be a bother. She bought my tasty "barnyard punch" quickly and accommodated my every need. The food was good and not so good. The bread was very tasty, especially the brown bread. I tried the coleslaw, but it tasted of too much vinegar and not enough sugar. The overcooked vegetables did not have a fresh appearance; I could not finish them. The loaded baked potato was piping hot and good taste but may have been kept warm for too long. I did come towards the end of the evening, so a held over baked potato comes with the timing. My steak was cooked medium rare as requested with only 2 small bits of fat I could not chew. The stuffing and sauce it was tpped with was flavorful and a good combination. Unfortunately, the meat dish should have been warmer to start. All in all, it's a nice place to grab a tasty dinner. I will come another time and try a sandwich meal. There is a very nice country store in the front of the restaurant with a large variety of decorative and functional items for sale. Mostly kitchen items and gifts.

We’d give it 10 stars! We are traveling back home to Montana and tired of fast food. We’re so happy that we found the Machine Shed and will be lifelong customers every year on our trip back East to visit family! One of the BEST waitresses of all time! She catered to our every whim even before we could ask, and gave us a complimentary cinnamon roll because it was our first time in Iowa and at the Machine Shed. The HUGEST portions of good country cooking, excellent value for your money! Reminds me of what Cracker Barrel used to be like when I was a kid, but wayyy better! Everything tastes like it’s made with real butter and love❤️ Even the fried apples were homemade with a touch of orange zest and perfectly sweet with a touch of sour. Literally the best fried apples I’ve had(normally not my first choice). Just a plethora of tremendous food, a great atmosphere, extremely friendly and fast service. We’ve already started telling everyone we know to come here on their travels! Wear your stretchy pants and try everything! We loved the fried chicken, fried apples and homemade bread basket(both of which are refillable!!!!), fried mushrooms, potato skins and desserts. Can’t wait to come back and try even more!
