I stumbled upon Minh Gourmet about two weeks ago -- it sits on a smaller side road somewhat hidden by Slagles grocery store. I'm really glad I did, because I liked it so much I've already returned with my wife and had their lunch buffet two more times.
The lunch buffet is Mon - Saturday 11 AM to 2 PM, and costs a very reasonable $6.95. It is very popular with the locals, including tradesmen, seniors, and many blue-collar workers from nearby businesses. Although the parking lot may appear full, Minh's has ample seating ( even for large groups), and they continually bring out food to replenish the buffet. The wait staff is friendly, efficient, and regularly takes away any used dishes and refills your drinks.
The buffet selection is not huge, but the food is tasty and the meats are tender and ample. There are two soups ( egg drop and sizzling rice), egg rolls, crab Rangoon, and small fried chicken wings. There are always six staples like sweet and sour chicken, Mongolian beef, Hunan Pork ( slightly spicy), garlic chicken or broccoli chicken, General Taos chicken, chicken lo Mein, a vegetarian dish. Fried or white rice is available. The dessert bar includes fresh fruit like bananas and watermelon, two flavors of home-made, frosting-covered sheet cake ( I've had cherry, walnut, and chocolate in my visits), some cookies, and softserve vanilla ice cream with several Hersey toppings.
They also have a full menu, carry-out and delivery service, and a Friday night buffet from 4:30 to 8 PM ($ 9 adult,...
Read moreBro.... bro... I have no idea how this place has 4.5 stars. I am so annoyed. This was the most inconsistent and badly balance meal I've ever had. I can cook better Chinese than this and I'm very caucasion.
The Lo Mein is bland, like very bland The fried rice tastes like pure sesame oil The sweet and sour chicken was mostly breading The shrimp lo mein had raw pieces of Shrimp and some still had the tail on. The hot and sour soup was way too much rice vinegar, wayyy too much white pepper, and not enough soy sauce. My hot and sour soup is league's better. The chicken in the garlic chicken was so overcooked it parched my mouth even with the sauce. The plastic cups smelled funky, like funky, not sure how to describe better than that. The crag rangoons arguably had no crab in them and only one of them had chives (or green onion) and that one had it had 10 times the chives it should have had.
The people were nice, and a regular came in that seemed to like the food. But for us, out of the dozens of Chinese restaurants we've been too. This is easily and unequivocally the worst.. I didn't complain when paying and still tipped for the record. But I will never return.. if you can serve food that bad, you dont deserve my business. Even if it...
Read moreTried this place for the first time tonight. Upon entering we immediately noticed an odd smell in the restaurant. Hard to describe but definitely not pleasant. That aside, what was most atrocious from our visit is the COLD RAW meat that was served to us. see picture. Also, the fried rice on my plate smelled like it was drizzled with burnt chemicals before being served. Finally, to top it off, the (who I assume is) owner comes out to excuse why the dishes came out that way. You read that right: excuse. Not apologize and make right but to play the blame game with her chef.
She literally has the audacity to say that some people like their beef this way, never in our lives have we ever woken up and thought “hmm…you know what sounds appetizing? Some cold and raw beef and broccoli”.
Then, she proceeds to blame the chef for cooking the beef all clumped together and burning the friend rice.
Had the person who came out to talk to us taken the slightest bit of ownership over their mistakes we might have eventually given this one another try but definitely not...
