Last night I had the privilege of attending a tea silence ceremony at Davie Tea Hut. What was meant to be a group session became something even more intimate, it ended up being just myself and Bibi, the tea guide.

The setting itself felt like a hidden sanctuary. A mini farm and botanical garden with goats calling in the distance, chickens wandering about, and only the occasional car passing down the private road. The rhythm of the environment created a natural balance that perfectly framed the ceremony.

Bibi began by blessing each bowl with her gentle rituals, then placed the tea on a long wooden log table. In silence, we closed our eyes and let the calmness seep in with each cup of amethyst tea from China, (if I’m not mistaken). By the third cup, the flavors had truly unfolded, opening the palate and deepening the experience.

To close the ceremony, Bibi read from the Tao Te Ching, page 31 the passage that speaks of weapons bringing sorrow and the wisdom of choosing peace. In that moment, it felt as though the message was not just read, but absorbed by the quiet around us.

This was more than drinking tea. It was stepping into a space of stillness, reflection, and harmony. With everything going on in the world, this type of experience is something we all need a chance to pause, breathe, and reconnect with balance.

I appreciate the occasional rooster’s crow. I appreciate the serene expression on everyone’s face. There is so much more, and I appreciate it all.

The day I walked into Davie tea hut my world changed. Bibi welcomed my mom and I on our first ceremony to the hut even despite being overbooked that day. She creates a safe space like no other. The experience of sitting together in silence with tea is something everyone should experience. It is so beautiful to sit in the hut listening to the sounds of animals and watching Bibi prepare the tea. I highly recommend this experience.
