Wow. My home town literally had one red light, a grocery store, and a laundry mat. DeKalb, Texas, reminds me of home minus the mountain ranges and valleys I live in. In comparison, DeKalb offers this quaint little restaurant, which is a very nice edition to the town. The decor here is vey rustic, country, and full of mounted animals and beautiful wildlife prints. It's nothing fancy by any means, however the food selection ranges from pizza to steaks aged 21 days and cooked to your liking. The atmosphere is very laid back and friendly, family oriented, with staff to match. Everyone we saw had a smile on their face, in this day and age extremely refreshing to see. They do have a children's menu, appetizers, burgers, and full dinners. Portions are moderate and well priced. However, the only draw back is that while the food is well seasoned and tasty, you will not be receiving a cold beer to wash down with it, as they do not have a liquor license. From what we were told, this is a work in progress as the county has just recently become wet at grocery and convenience stores. All and all, very pleasant...
Read moreBleeeck!!! We went there this afternoon (over an hour's drive from our home) to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The Fried Dill Pickle Spears were AWESOME! We both ordered the chicken fried steak. I also ordered a side of shrimp scampi. I knew we were in trouble when I went to make the very first cut into the steak. The breading went flying over to the side and it took 4-5 swipes with the knife to cut the first bite. Sure enough, it was pure gristle! I'd say the steak itself may have been 1/8 an inch thick. Not kidding. Normally, I looove the crunchy breading. Something was just OFF. We both left more than half the steak (around 4-5 inches in diameter!). The shrimp scampi came out BOILING in the dish...what does that tell you? TOUGH x10. With Mozzarella cheese melted on top??? Really??? I'm 66 years old & have eaten LOTS OF shrimp scampi...never with Mozzarella! Maybe Parmesan. We won't be going there again!! Waitress was really attentive & friendly, though. ...
Read moreThrough the years, i have enjoyed eating at front street junction. The food has always been well prepared, served hot and always good. My wife and i ate at fsj the other day, and the food service at best was less than mediocre. My wife did not even attempt to eat her fish sandwich and fries. The bread was soggy, the fish undercooked, and the fries were served cold. I mean cold, and limp. My chicken fry was a little better, however the mashed potatoes and gravy were cold. The service was little better than the food. Our tea was ordered as unsweet, but you guessed it, sweet with very little ice. Some of this could have been corrected, except we did not see our waited waitress again. We paid out at the counter and were asked how the food was. I gave my opinion and was met with silence. Why ask us? I have previously given five stars for this restaurant, but we left feeling like we were very...
