This frozen, soft-serve custard is on another level entirely. No more will I waste my calories on regular soft-serve ice cream (cough DQ cough). I’ve experienced other frozen custard that’s in a hard, scoop style (Culver’s, Shake Shack) and Custard Hut, in my opinion, blows them all away! First off, if you’re on any kind of diet or counting calories, don’t even bother coming in here because the smell of the hot, toasted waffles alone will make you cry. Also, the custard is insanely creamy, insanely smooth, dense, and rich, but not overly sweet like some regular soft-serve ice cream I’ve had. I always say I’ll try something different each time I come here, but end up getting a classic soft-serve cone so I can purely experience the custard. They offer an alternating soft-serve custard flavor each week in addition the classic chocolate or vanilla. So far I’ve had blueberry custard that was to die for and recently had a pistachio/toasted coconut twist flavor that I could not even believe was that amazing. Absolute heaven.
Be prepared on weekend evenings (and with summer fast approaching) to wait around 10-ish minutes as the line is usually out the door. Line moved fairly quickly as the young girls running the counter had a smooth system going. Majority of the people in line who were waiting after they ordered were getting the waffle ice cream sandwiches, so those took a few extra minutes as they were made to order. It’s a small place, so somewhat of a wait is to be expected, but extremely worth it. Small standing only counter near windows to eat at only when it’s not crowded, otherwise many picnic style tables outside (if I recall correctly at least 5 or 6 tables that could easily seat around 4-6 people each, so I don’t understand the reviewer complaining about the crowds inside? And it’s not like they can control the size of their establishment! If something is popular, you’re going to have to wait! That simple. I’m also constantly reminded of the “first world” complaints I see on many reviews. Do you people even know what neighborhood you’re in?! Do you expect an old school, not fancy ice cream shop to have marble floors and pristine exterior?! Lord, some of you humans need a reality check. A LOT of small, family run seasonal ice cream shops have high school students working there. In what universe is that offensive?! Sorry, you’re walking up to a counter, purchasing an ice cream cone for maybe $3 and change and you expect the red carpet rolled out for you. Please. Maybe if you’re having a bad day, don’t write a review LOL!) If you’ve never had frozen custard and are looking for a step up from your usual Mickey D’s vanilla soft-serve, get over here before they shut down after...
Read moreI saw this place on Instagram, so i decided to take my family here (September 11, 2016 at 7pm). The Custard Hut is not close to me at all, I stay in St.Clair Shores....but the Instagram page for The Custard Hut had some really interesting hot waffle samdwiches. The Custard Hut was getting ready to close due to the end of season so we were on our way... upon arrival the staff was very kind... We end up ordering 2 butter pecan ice creams with caramel and two hot waffle sandwich.. Upon my daughters second bite she broke a bracket on her braces thinking it was a pecan.... she said the pecan was super hard, so I looked further at the pecan and looking at it for awhile to my amaze it was a piece of wood!!!! I told the staff and all they were willing to do was replace the ice cream or give a refund, but definitely NOT both... I couldn't speak to a manager or the owner cause it was "STORE POLICY"..... I'M SO BEYOND DISGUSTED AND PISSED.... WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A GOOD IDEA TURNED INTO A...
Read moreWhat kind of a store would refuse to serve a pregnant woman. i asked for a banana split and asked if she can add a spoon of nutella and willing to pay EXTRA they refused and the girl that was helping me went to ask the owner who's name was ZAHRAA and she refused completely i told her just give me a spoon of nutella im really craving it and willing to PAY for it and she refused i used to be a customer there and after what they did i won't be going there anymore, they really don't have good service like how they used to when they first opened. As an ice cream place you need to be creative and just make your customers happy. Customer service is above and beyond horrible. Even when my husband asked for the twist ice cream he told her no lid and she still did it and ruined the ice cream from the top and did not even apologize. YOU DO NOT...
