Our recent visit to Buckley’s Tavern was, unfortunately, one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in quite some time.
It began with small oversights that quickly snowballed into a pattern of inattentive service and disorganization. We were seated on the back patio with no silverware or napkins—not a huge issue at first. However, it took 15 minutes for my dad’s beer to arrive, and it came without a glass. The glass didn’t show up until another 10 minutes had passed. By the time our appetizers came out, we still had no silverware or napkins. My husband eventually went inside to the hostess stand to request them, as our server was nowhere to be found. They finally arrived—ironically—right after we finished our appetizers, along with appetizer plates we no longer needed.
Things continued to unravel from there. My dad received his side Caesar salad with no dressing. We waited patiently for service, but once again, no one came. He had to go inside himself to get dressing. At this point, we were getting frustrated—not just because of the multiple issues, but because we repeatedly had to leave the table to resolve them ourselves.
Over an hour after being seated, our entrées arrived. My stepmother’s order was wrong: she received the wrong salad and no fries. My brother and I both received overcooked burgers despite ordering medium and medium rare. The real low point was when I bit into my burger and pulled a hair out of the patty. That’s when we asked to speak with a manager.
To his credit, the manager was apologetic. He comped our appetizers, offered to get me a new entrée since I ordered something else, and said dessert would be complimentary if we wanted to order any. He also told my stepmother her fries would be out “any minute.”
They weren’t. Another staff member came over at some point and echoed the same thing—but the fries never showed. We asked for the bill and the dessert menu, and after another 10-minute wait, we still had neither. At that point, we gave up. We didn’t bother with dessert and had to go inside again just to pay and leave.
What should have been a casual lunch turned into a two-hour ordeal. From start to finish, the service was inattentive, disorganized, and downright careless. We tried to be patient. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. But after having to get up from our table multiple times just to receive basic service, dealing with repeated order mistakes, and discovering a hair in my food, it became clear that this restaurant is severely lacking in both training and accountability. While the manager’s apology was appreciated, it simply wasn’t enough to make up for how consistently bad the experience was.
Buckley’s may have charm and a nice location, but that means nothing without competent service and sanitary standards. Safe to say, we won’t be returning to Buckley’s Tavern—and I hope our experience was an exception rather...
Read moreI am reviewing the "NEW" Buckleys not the old one.My wife and I along with another couple went to Buckley's for dinner on a Wednesday night. We had reserved a table it took 20 minutes to seat us in that 20 minutes we got to look around the renovated "New" restaurant and bar,Very nice inside it is warm and inviting.after being seated we were handed a very small and oddly priced menu allot of appetizer's.we had 2 different soups clam chowder was very good, cream of mushroom also very good,we also got fried calamari tubes and tentacles I think a rubber band would have tasted better typical frozen already breaded hors doeuvres. Entrees were Crab cake sandwich,We were expecting good Quality lump crab for the price, sadly it looked and tasted bad Shredded crab meat ,no back fin allot of wet filler. Next entree was a chicken César salad it did not come with the cheese and dressing tossed in to the salad ,dressing was in a side cup and was like firm as butter, the dressing and chicken tasted bad .the salad was sent back and French fries were ordered instead they were actually good. 3rd entree was scallops remarkably they were sautéed perfect and tasted awesome. 4th entree Appetizer Chicken quesadilla witch was ok just basic. The wait staff was great removed the unwanted meals quickly from in front of us and the bill was adjusted accordingly .We all were sad to not see the manager come and apologize for the poor meals and attempt to sway our impressions of our night, it was left to the waitress. We were expecting a meal that was a step above average bar food in the Centerville area. Did we expected too much!? Since drinking is not our favorite past time this will probably be our last stop into Buckley`s Tavern. Review for...
Read moreMy fiancé and I were looking for places eat near Winterthur over the weekend and she found this place less than 1.5 miles from there. We have driven by this place countless times and never decided to stop until now, and I am disappointed we didn’t until now.
We were able to get a seat quickly without reservation despite being two days from Christmas, so we were lucky. We staff were very friendly as well, which is great to see. The server recommended the Brussel sprouts and we also got the onion rings and I tell you, they were both fantastic. The sauce with the Brussel sprouts was delicious and the garlic aioli with the onion rings was a great sauce to pair with them and more places should do that.
The French dip sandwich was probably the best French dip sandwich I’ve ever had from a restaurant. I think the only way I could have it better is to make it myself. The horseradish sauce on the bread took it to another level. The meat was tender and the au jus was okay. The au jus was not quite as good as I hoped it would be, it was a bit salty and was not as flavorful as I hoped, but it still was good. I still dipped my sandwich in for each bite and I enjoyed it regardless.
The Creme brûlée was good and satisfied my sweet tooth after dinner. I would recommend that for dessert as it doesn’t fill you up too much and has great flavor.
Price-wise it is a bit more expensive than I expected, so be sure you are willing to drop a decent amount of money off each person. Including dessert and two appetizers, it was $139 for 4 people, averaging 34.75 per person. I will recommend this to anyone looking for a place to eat after visiting Longwood Gardens...
