The 'pandemic' has not been kind to Tony M's. We have frequented this establishment since they first opened decades ago, and have seen it through a few different family ownership transfers, a building fire, and the latest owners.
I hesitate to be too brutal in my review because I know that finding ANYONE to work, let alone a conscientious employee in these days where the Socialists have trained an entire generation to feel entitled to 'free' govt money while sitting at home smoking dope.
Tony M's has 1 decent cook that has been there for many years......if you are lucky enough to dine there when he is working....with him cooking your food; you are golden.....you will get a great pizza with the best home made Italian crust in the state (passed along by the original Italian family that started the business).
However, if you don't get their main cook....who in my mind is the anchor employee of their business.....you will get food that is cold or burnt to a black crisp......
In general, getting 'hot' food is elusive .
If you get one of their longer term servers, you will also be happy....
Today's dining experience threw us deuces.....
While the rest of our party was finishing up eating, I was still waiting for my meal to be delivered.....the first attempt was refrigerator cold....followed by a 2nd cold attempt....and finally, a burnt black offering.
I finally gave up....went home and had a can of Progresso soup and a grilled cheese sandwich....
Again.....like all restaurants and businesses today......they are fighting for the few bottom of the barrel employees that haven't figured out how they can game the system and make more money by not working.....so, finding quality employees who are friendly, diligent, and bright enough to keep a vigilant watch over their customers is an excruciatingly difficult endeavor.....
Since the pandemic began..... Meal quality and service has been a 50/50 proposition....but that is the case everywhere....and at every business today. So, you cannot exactly fault the owners...they are trying the best they can.
The owners try hard and are at the mercy of the...
Read moreWe originally contacted Tony M’s back in May to reserve their banquet room for my father’s 70th birthday celebration, scheduled for July. At the time, we were told that hosting the event on a Friday evening would be no problem, as Saturday was already booked. Over the following months, we discussed several details with staff, including decorations, music, and food orders. We were never asked to provide a deposit—only informed that a minimum spend would be required for use of the banquet room. Just one week before the event, we were unexpectedly contacted and told that the banquet room had been double-booked. We were informed we would now have to share the space with another party. When we declined that option, they offered to move our party into the main restaurant, which we also declined. We were then told they would try to relocate the other party instead.
After a day or so with no update, we were finally informed via text that the other event is a funeral, and as a result, they would be given priority access to the banquet room. Our only remaining option was to move the birthday celebration to the outdoor patio, which we respectfully declined.
We have since secured the banquet room at One North and are looking forward to celebrating there. We’ve hosted events at One North before and have always had a great experience.
That said, it’s incredibly disappointing—especially for my dad, who had his heart set on celebrating at Tony M’s. Unfortunately, the lack of organization and communication on their team’s part left us with no choice but to take our business elsewhere.
EDIT:
I’m even more disappointed by the response provided in this review. I’ve attached a screenshot of our text exchange with Melanie for reference.
What’s most frustrating is the continued suggestion that a deposit was expected—at no point was one requested from us. In fact, our new venue asked for a deposit upfront, which we were happy to provide. Had that been the case here, we would have...
Read moreOrdered the Cajun Chicken Caesar Salad salad w/ raspberry vinaigrette dressing. (8/10)
The chicken to lettuce ratio was pretty good. I would have preferred a little bit more tomato. 3 cherry tomatoes cut in half is a bit disappointing. It did say on the menu that there would be parmesan cheese but you couldn't really see or taste cheese in the salad.
The cajun chicken was cooked well and seasoned well too. It's what I would have expected from something cajun spiced. And the lettuce was rinsed, too. I appreciate that, most places don't even bother.
I would just ask to be a little more specific with which onion is going to be in the salad. It says, "onion", however, it doesn't specify that it is red onion. For me, there was a little too much salad dressing given but it was on the side of the salad which I like when eateries do that. Sometimes they don't and they either over/under-do their dressings.
Our server was very nice. Though she did not talk too much, you could tell she was focused in her work and I admire that greatly. Concentration leads to very few mistakes and she did not slip up one bit. Very professional and nice to us.
The interior seems to be more like a bar/tavern. So it's a nice place to take your friends or have a family outing. I would be more willing to try some of their pizzas, too. I took a look at them and they looked...
