So after re-opening under new management, I'm going to have to say that The Red Barn is quite disappointing. There was a group of us that went and arrived at 5pm well ahead of the crowds and waited over an hour to get our food. I ordered a burger all the way and it came out with just mayo, lettuce and tomato. The patty was drier than the Sahara desert. My wife ordered a crab claw dinner and paid $30 for a plate that contained no more than a dozen claws, I would have seen this as an appetizer size but this was the dinner size and not worth $30. Two of the people in our party ordered the grilled shrimp and they were luke warm. Also upon having a refill of sweet tea the waitress poured tea into my platter of fried pickles. I will say she went and had a new order made though. Several times we had to have different waitresses refill everyone's cup at the table. Another mark against dinner, most restaurants bring you a plate of rolls to go with dinner, nope there was only one roll per entree served at our table. The salad bowls for the entrees were brought to you and not at the salad bar. For the $61 ticket, after a $2.31 service charge for running my credit card, I could have went to Big Mike's steakhouse in Thomasville or Moundville and got way better food for the same price. I can honestly say I will not be back to The Red Barn anytime soon. If I could give it no-stars The Red Barn would definitely get that rating.

Update 5/21/2020

I can honestly say now after the Owner's sarcastic and snide reply to my review, I will NEVER set foot in this establishment again. If this is how they respond to a negative review of their restaurant, then you can count me out. To all the people reading my review, I suggest you go and look at their reply to it. Absolutely appalling that an owner would reply in that way. Instead of trying to make things right or respond in a positive way, they jump on the defensive and try to demean the customer. I will also do everything in my power to make sure none of my friends and family ever set foot in that place again. Congratulations to the owners because you just lost all respect I had for you and for losing...

I was treated awful. I am 49 years old and a business owner and I have never been treated like that in my entire life over a to go order. By the manager. Edna Brown. I picked up my order and had to go back for silverware, not even an apology from anyone. I can live with that no problem. I ordered a cheeseburger with fried mushrooms as my side. The mushrooms were raw inside. Pure dough oozing. It almost made me sick. Still no problem, everyone makes mistakes. So I called them to ask if they would make me another plate, that's when Ms. Brown gets on the phone and acts like she don't believe me. I told her I was bringing the food back and I just wanted another plate. She said she wasn't giving me another cheeseburger, the cheeseburger had not been touched but it was ordered as a plate. Why would I eat a cold hard cheeseburger when they messed up my order? I told her that if she couldn't give me a hot plate of food that I had already paid for and had already made two trips and fixing to make the third one. When I got there she confronted me and said that I threatened to come get the money out of her cash register. What? This woman is crazy, I would never say anything like that to anyone and still refused to give me another cheeseburger until all the employees gathered around and then she changed her mind. I stood in the back by the register visibly shaking and trying not to cry. And then I can hear her joking loudly from the kitchen saying don't ask me nothing I'm fired! And laughing about it. What is wrong with her? How can the owner have someone like that running his restaurant. I asked to speak to the owner and she thought that was funny also and told me I would have to wait till tomorrow but wouldn't even give me his name. Please think twice before going here. I can't believe she hurt my feelings and embarrassed me that way when I just spent more than $33.00 on a...

This was my second visit since The Red Barn opening under new management.

The first visit was opening night, my wife ordered the small ribeye and i had the crab claws. The steak was so thin you could almost see thru it, like the individual steaks you get for steak sandwiches. The crab claws were good but now worth the price for this small portion of crab claws.

Went again tonight giving them the benefit of opening night issues. My wife ordered the chicken tenders and i had the fried shrimp. I was given a bowl to go to the salad bar so i assume one small portion of salad is all that's allowed. We had the crab claws appetizer again, while good not worth the price for 12 crab claws at market price.. Our food finally arrived after an extensive wait. My wife's chicken and fries were ice cold and inedible. My shrimp were really good so i assume her dinner sat waiting on them to prepare mine. Since it had taken so long to get our meal she did not want to send it back.

This being our second bad dining experiences since opening under new management, each at a cost in excess of $60, we won't be returning for 3rd bad experience. Instead we will drive to Meridian, Tuscaloosa, Thomasville or Moundville, if we want to spend this much money on a quality meal.

Demopolis has very few restaurant choices and we were hoping for a quality dining experience similar to the old Red Barn, this...

I chose The Red Barn for my birthday dinner this year, even though we live about two hours away (long story). In addition to celebrating my birthday, we met some of my wife's friends from her teenage years in Demopolis and Gallion. While we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, I ordered the Red Barn appetizer sampler. It included cheese curds, Conecuh smoked sausage, chicken wings and onion rings. Everything on the platter was fresh and tasty. For dinner, I chose the Filet Mignon, salad and loaded baked potato. My wife decided on chicken tenders with homemade potato chips. My meal was very good with the exception that my steak (ordered medium rare) was a bit underdone. The chicken tenders and potato chips were excellent. Service was superior (thanks Paige). The Red Barn is an institution in the Demopolis area. You can tell it has been there a long time based on its weathered and worn appearance. A rustic, dark interior with worn, creaky floor boards add to the country roadside ambiance. Don't judge the food by the outward appearance. The Red Barn has the staying power that is a testament to the quality of food served here.

THE MOST HONEST REVIEW: Customer Service from Bailey: 10/10 Blackened Shrimp: 10/10 Ribeye: 5/10 👀. :( it was chewy but the chef cooed it perfectly as ordered. Drinks: 10/10 nice and strong💪🏽 Overall: I’m happy. I really wish my steak was better quality. I’d love for you all to find a better quality and raise the prices if need be. Of course, this is my opinion as a city boy. Some Places charge $60 for a steak and I’m happy to pay it because it’s delicious and tender. I’d say order something else until they change their way of cooking it or the supplier. I’m not a cook, I don’t know what needs to be done, lol. Ruth Chris steak house is my favorite. But for Demopolis , DEF COME AND VISIT. Thanks for the great service and relaxed environment. And welcoming folks of all color. Tootles :)

The Red Barn building was constructed in 1960 for a recently paralyzed man by locals who donated their labor, and the building shows that with its uneven floors and other quirks. Evidence of the original knob and tube wiring is present via an old fuse box cover in a corner. At some point, the insurance company required that the wiring be updated. So, that's good. It's only my second visit, but I enjoy dining here. The food quality is good and the waitstaff provide good service. It's always busy since it's a favorite with the locals. There's a small dirt lot across the road that can accommodate one or two trucks.
