First time. Been wanting to try Swan River for a while but never got around to it until tonight. We couldn’t have picked a better night for several reasons. When we arrived we were checking out the outside dining when a gentleman approached us and asked if we had a reservation. We reluctantly replied No. He said he was sorry that there were 2 weddings going on inside so the only thing available was outside. Weather was perfect so it wasn’t a problem. He said he could fit us in but there would be about a 20 minute wait. We said no problem. Within 5 minutes we were seated at a table outside. Having driven by dozens of times we hadn’t ever really seen the outdoor seating. It’s a great location overlooking the Swan River. There are approximately 20 tables and a fire pit and a bar. Our timing couldn’t have been better as we were able to view a beautiful sunset from our table. While the view and weather were perfect they don’t entirely make for a perfect experience if the food and beverages don’t match the atmosphere. Alas they did not disappoint. I ordered a local (Dennis) draft and it was so good I had another. I ordered off the nightly specials menu and had a new take on an old classic. I ordered the Cape Cod Potato Chip crusted cod. A new local twist on the usual Ritz cracker crusted cod, which is one of my favorites.
It came with rice and carrots & green beans. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty. I was entirely satisfied with my choice.
While I wasn’t hungry anymore I wasn’t quite ready to see a perfect evening end so in memory of “Tony” I ordered dessert. I opted for the “Sandbar”, an ice cream, cake, Reese’s peanut butter cup concoction. It was incredible and was the “Cherry on Top” of a perfect meal.
To add to a perfect meal and night out was the outstanding service. I’m not sure if the first gentleman who greeted and took care of us is the owner or manager but he is completely hands on, running around making sure everything kept running smoothly with a full house at the outside dining and a wedding going on inside. The rest of the staff outside were doing likewise. Although they were all hurrying and scurrying about there was an adequate number of servers. All you here about these past few years is to be patient eating out on the Cape because of the lack of restaurant staffing. And expect it to be worse in September when all the college kids go back to school. The Swan River Restaurant has found the secret sauce because they have lots of staff and they work hard to make your dining experience enjoyable. Last but not least a shoutout to our server “Adrian”. Adrian was pleasant and efficient. He was attentive and a pleasure to meet. He is a real credit to the success ofThe Swan ...
Read moreWe came to swan river because I wanted to show my friends a good seafood restaurant in Dennis and had come to swan river in my youth and always had a good experience. I myself have been a server for 6 years and I can overlook most mistakes at the dinner table as long as the service is friendly and the food is good sadly to say their waitress was rude and the food was mediocre at best. The dining room was nearly empty at 6pm on Fourth of July week, and it took us an hour after ordering to get our food! the waitress brought another tables food to us at first, and when we did finally receive our meals she had entered our order incorrectly! the special my friend ordered which was supposed to come with ratatouille and mushroom risotto, turned out to be a small piece of bass and a tiny scoop of gross mashed potatoes and when we asked about the risotto the waitress responded in a rude tone that "this is the starch of the day" and when I asked her about the special she replied in a rude tone "that's how the kitchen makes it!" And she turned and walked away. Not only was the food cold and the burger we ordered overcooked, but the MANAGER HERSELF brought the salad and rolls that is SUPOSED TO COME WITH the dinners, to the table right next to ours and completely neglected our table. our bill was over 120$ and it was not worth the price and I'm embarrassed that I even took my friends out...
Read moreWas very excited to try this restaurant and was horribly disappointed. I have never ever had to ask for another glass before but right off the bat, the glass they gave my husband for his beer was filthy. I didn't notice till after I had drank my drink that it was dirty too, (gross) but didn't say anything about my glass. I asked for another glass for my husband & they came back with a plastic cup which was fine. The menu was extremely expensive for the very casual dining but as long as the food was good, we didn't care, but that wasn't the case. The fried calamari was a perfect light golden brown color served without any sauce and we weren't given any plates. We asked for marinara sauce & plates and by the time we got them, the calamari was unfortunately soggy sitting in oil. The dishes we ordered was in the $30 range. My husband ordered the fried seafood platter & it was over fried. The color was a dark brown & bland. I ordered the Seafood Supreme and it also was extremely bland. Suppose to be Alfredo sauce but didn't taste anything except butter. The lobster was just two small claws, one of the scallops color looked questionable and the grated cheese that came with it did very little to help with the taste. For the price, we felt it should have been a hell of a lot better. I think this place is better for ordering burgers...
