Randy’s is one of our favorite restaurants to visit when we come to our Houghton Lake cottage. We usually go there for breakfast however we have had amazing lunches and dinners there as well.
They have a phenomenal breakfast bar on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8am-1pm. It has anything you could possibly want for a big yummy wholesome breakfast. Everything is so fresh, the fruit especially. I love their omelettes, I have tried several of them and they have all been fantastic, the eggs Benedict delicious, the loaded veggie breakfast bowl is amazing, to be honest my husband and I have loved every meal we have ever had there. The restaurant is extremely clean, the staff is awesome, friendly, and attentive . We usually get the same waitress Wendy, she alone makes our dining experience enjoyable, today she even remembered what we wanted for our beverages, even though we came in later than usual. I highly recommend visiting their restaurant!! They have a great menu, a great breakfast, salad, and dinner bar, as well as friendly kind staff!
I actually wrote this review months ago I think it was the end of winter, but I wanted to edit a few things. I also really wanted to thank our waitress we had today, July 28th 2023. Pam; my husband mentioned it was my birthday and she not only wished me a happy birthday but she brought my omelet with a candle in it, it made my morning, it really did. Just another reason why they are my favorite family restaurant, they truly care about the people who come in to eat. And it’s more than the times I have mentioned here, it’s every time we go, even when they are busy. They all work very hard to make sure everything is amazing, and they do a great job. I’m no critic but I’m sincere in the...
Read moreChristmas buffet 2023, out of four slices of prime rib, only one bite was tender. The ham was tender, but only bits and pieces available, not by the slice. There were no gourmet vegetable dishes, just plain corn and green bean casserole that was missing the crispy fried onions which made it taste bland, but it looked like they threw in a few seasoned fries at the last minute that was an unexpected weird taste. The mashed potatoes were great, but the roasted red potatoes were dried out, hard and crumbled in your mouth, definitely were microwaved. They must of thought everyone was coming for the prime rib, so the hek with the veggies, lol. Only thing is they must of just got some cheap rib roasts that they knew weren't that great, but hey they used the prime rib to draw in costumers, so it didn't need to be good, because once they got you in, your in! Can't comment on the broasted chicken, or shrimp, but likely good. No pies! imagine that on Christmas and they were a little stingy on the dessert cakes, likely because they were gourmet, and also were the first things they removed from the buffet when ending, lol. You could tell they weren't homemade, possibly picked up from Walmart. I'm sure the cook was paid very well for working the holidays, but must of woke up late and slopped everything together, lol. It's kind of like they know nothing else is open, so just throw a cheap buffet together for people that have to eat out for the holidays, because hey they have no choice right! It was definitely a $27 plus tax buffet rip-off! Atmosphere/decor was cold and sterile. The only good thing was the service, but what's that without good food. Unfortunately you'd prolly get a better meal at McDonald's if they were open...
Read moreOn the Northeast corner of the lake, Randy's is a local favorite.
To their credit, they picked a prime location and they have a Corner On The Market, so to speak, for a Family Restaurant on the north side of Beautiful Houghton Lake. (As opposed to Bar/Restaurant. Big difference.) Now, keep in mind they do more than breakfast. They're a full service restaurant and I'm sure you can find their hours and menu around here somewhere, but for some odd reason, I've only been to breakfast. A lot, so that's what I'll review.
The service is generally pretty dang good. The people are friendly, the service prompt. As with any place on the lake, on summer weekends, you better be early or you'll be pressing your punkin' face up to the window, looking in from the parking lot. Most other days you can pretty much walk in and get a seat. Though that's not a promise. Hey. When it comes down to it, you're on your own. Sorry.
The menu is standard fare for breakfast but that's pretty much what we all want, right? Eggs, Butter & Syrup (and the pancakes/waffles that come with them) and meat. What more is there? Okay, there's coffee, which is good and plentiful, toast, biscuits and even gravy but sadly no grits. Yes. I know. It's a Southern Thing but once you've lived there, you get used to them and you miss them when you can't get them. Just sayin'. And in the same category, my vote for the channel on the very nice TV monitor in the restaurant would be the Weather Channel or even better, an old TV show or movie. I can see the news at home and I find it is often incompatible with eating. Again. Just sayin'.
The bathrooms pass The Test, being clean and functional. A big plus, believe me.
So yeah. Randy's....
