I live in the area and love having Captain Roy's close by. I have introduced a lot of people to this fun little spot.
I don't think the food is anything that great but it is decent for bar food. They have some good live music and special events.
Recently, I was there for the first annual mushroom festival. I bought a beverage that was in a can from a vendor. It was warm and I needed a glass of ice.
I went inside and the line to order food was long. I am 66 years old with several issues that cause chronic pain. I have a handicapped license plate and was on disability before turning 65 years old. A person has to be in severe pain to qualify for disability. Standing in long lines is not something I can tolerate very well.
I didn't feel I needed to stand in the food/drink line to get a glass of ice. So, I stepped up to the bar to ask for a glass of ice.
The young woman behind the bar asked me if I was in line. I said that I was not in line because I just needed a glass of ice. She scowled at me and told me that I was very rude. However, she got me the glass of ice.
I was kind and thanked her. I also apologized.
Is this how the younger generation should talk to and treat the older generation? Is this how an employee should treat a customer? Was my action deserving of her negative tone and harsh words?
I encouraged two other people to attend the festival with me. Between us we spent well over $100 on food, beverages and making purchases from the vendors.
I hope this review sparks a conversation that encourages the staff to be kind to the customers because there are plenty of other places we can spend our...
Read moreI enjoyed the Cajun band for the small amount of time I got to hear them. We went inside to order at 12:30 pm. They were out of fish and had no meat thawed for the festival that started at 1 pm yet. Not a good start. We ordered bacon-wrapped jalapeños. They were ok but cold and a bit undercooked in spots. We also ordered a tray of nachos (we had them once before and liked them). We were served in less than 15 minutes. The meat was cold and very dry and the cheese wasn't melted at all. I went back in to ask a female bartender if they could warm it up a bit more and said I would wait for it inside thinking it would take a couple of minutes. I stood inside for OVER 10 minutes. I was in one spot for SO long, I was mistaken as an employee. I asked the female bartender to please check on my food. More waiting, a male bartender offered to give me a refund if I had the card it was purchased on, I said I had to walk back to get my husband's card. Right after i got his card, the waiter delivered the nachos. Melted cheese now but cold. Again. Unbelievable. The bartender wrote the last 4 numbers down of our card and said he would refund it. We have not seen a refund yet. That was over a week ago. Captain Roy's seems to never be staffed well enough for these events. Our 1st time wasn't terrible and the food was mediocre (it was something to do with free live music) but this time was awful and we will not go back again. I'm an easygoing person and had they fixed this by warming it quickly or refunding us for my long wait, this would've been a...
Read moreThe outdoor setup is very casual and open. The canopies outside are a nice touch and provide extra shade during the hot summer months. A pontoon boat turned into a music stage is setup for bands to play, also outside, set up right next to the water at the entrance to the small Birdland Marina. The indoor bar itself is small but with the amount of room outside it really doesn't matter. A full bar inside with a nice selection of familiar domestic beers and regional microbrews.
I will go back again for other bands or events, because overall it is a pretty cool place, and with it being right on the water there really isn't a lot of places around the area like that.
Adult recess was the theme last night and it was pretty darn busy!!! I could see that being a regular thing there. It was my first time attending that event. A little more help serving drinks and a better method of getting drinks to customers would make things go a little...
