Victory Lap Pub & Grub — Restaurant in Des Moines

My husband and I drove by this place for many years before investigating. We like to know what we're getting into and this was a bit of a mystery for us. Today, on the way to the grocery store we decided to go for it and take a chance to avoid going to the store hungry around breakfast time.

It is definitely a dive bar with what seems like a loyal crowd. When we walked in everyone was sitting at the bar and the two round tables on the floor sat empty. The bar of laughing and happy patrons quieted and turned to glance in our direction, anxious to see if a friend had arrived, and then quickly got back to their conversations after realizing we were unknown.

After we sat at one of the round tables the bartender came over to take our drink order (we both got water) and asked, "breakfast?" We looked at one another and then the waitress and said, "yup." Within a minute we had (paper) plates in front of us with biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, and hashbrowns. A full plate of food for $5 each.

If you're looking for an easy, fast, cheap, hot breakfast, this is it. No frills, hardy food. We were literally in and out in less than 20 minutes. I'm sure we will definitely find ourselves...

I loved being able to go here to unwind after a long week as it is not too far from my home. I have always enjoyed the down to earth atmosphere until recently when I stated my opinion about something and bc a few people disagreed with me I was told I was unwelcome. I was in utter disbelief! I guess the “mentality” (using that term loosely) there is that you are not allowed to speak or have your own thoughts or beliefs. So unless you like being discriminated against I highly recommend you go somewhere else. In the meantime I am going to suggest to management that they post a sign on the door that says, “If you have a brain and use it in this establishment you will be...

Super place to hang out, sip a cold one, and play some Golden Tee. Food is solid on their limited modest day to day menu, however, their Sunday morning breakfast and "Tuesday Taco's" are the best kept secret bargain on the eastside.
