The food was good and a welcome addition to the neighborhood as most restaurants in the area are fast food.
I am rating it 3 stars not on the food but the service. I visited during one of the recent polar vortex days. I specifically drove to this place to show my lil brother the importance of supporting black-owned businesses. When we got there we thought it was closed because the inner door was locked but it was a security door so you had to be buzzed in. When we got in some guy at the bar greeted us and immediately told us to take off our hats (I assume he works there but he had no uniform). I told him we were just coming from outside in -20 degree weather and didn’t understand why we needed to take off our hats (mind you he was wearing a hat himself). At this point, I’m fed up because I don’t like being treated like a criminal especially when I’m spending my money at your establishment and especially if I’m trying to support my community. Nonetheless, I had driven out here so we grab a seat. The waiter was also acting as a bartender so although the drinks and food was good service was slow.
This experience left a bad taste in my mouth so I wouldn’t visit again as I’ve received better service from other black-owned restaurants off The Avenue of Fashion and downtown area. I do hope that service improves and that others (especially young Black men) don’t have the...
Read moreHad absolutely NO idea this place would be exceptional!! The atmosphere on a Friday evening was laid back and easy. It wasn't busy so we had our choice of seats. The server, Tez, was the best we've ever had. He began by addressing us by name and making drink recommendations. We were very pleased with his suggestions (Bloody Mary -with bacon & the Strawberry Lemon Drop) and we actually ordered a second round [that exceptional for us!]. The entrees were delicious. I had the fried catfish filets and my husband had the pork chops. Both were cooked to perfections. The catfish was flaky and the cornmeal coating was not too salty. The pork chops were fried hard, but were tender and moist. The side dishes were pretty good, too! I had collard greens and mac & cheese. My husband had the loaded potato.
While the neighborhood may cause pause, it is not necessary. Just use common sense and enjoy the dining experience!
We ate too fast to take food photos. But, we WILL definitely go back...
Read moreWent there for breakfast today and it was not good at all. From the moment we walked in we were never acknowledged.I ordered a side of catfish and the waitress forgot it. The location was not crowded at all for her to have forgotten. The eggs were stiff as a board with cheese just laid on top. I had to ask for a spoon for my grits. Every staff member in the place besides the kitchen, as I could see, was standing around eating. Not a good look as patrons like myself we’re just waiting for water. Customer service should have been number 1 since they had a sign that said so but, clearly not enforced! 👎🏼👎🏼 I have been here before and had a similar experience but just chalked it up to them being new. At this point they have been in business for at least 4yrs & nothing has changed. Disappointed to say...
