Manhattan Fish & Chicken — Restaurant in Detroit

I first tried Manhattan Chicken last week. My friend was looking for a place to get a large order from for a funeral repast and thought he tried one location near him, but wasn't sure. I suggested we get a couple dinners from the place near my house and try them out beforehand. We called on Sunday and asked how and when to place a large order and they were really informative.

The next day, I ordered dinner combos with dark meat and whole wings just to try them out before we commited to the large order. The phone-in order was ready in about 20 min. We tried it and LOVED it. Great flavor, tasted fresh, and decently generous portion.

The next day, I walked in and placed the larger order for 100 piece dark meat (legs and thighs) and whole wings. They suggested a deposit (I put down half) and I requested a pickup for 3:30 the next day. On pickup day, it was ready and they carried the order to my car (3 trays) and provided their lemon pepper spice on the side.

The chicken was the favorite of everyone during the reception. It was up against homemade mac & cheese and rib tips and the chicken stole the show. It really was very good and there was plenty for folks to take home a plate. It went SO fast I forgot to get a picture of the full trays and barely got one before they were empty. (See pics). There is much needed improvement here. I orderd 7 pieces of catfish and 15 wingdings. Catfish was 10.99 and the chicken was 11.99. The cashier charged me 25.00. I asked about the price because obviously the math was off and he tried to convince me i was wrong, so for the sake of time i asked for a receipt and he just gave a receipt that read 25.00. Only when i asked for i itemized receipt did he nonchalantly correct his math handing me my change. The real issue here was my catfish. The menu said 7 PIECES, i was given 7 halves pieces. When i called to ask about this i was simply told "its how we cut them". You cant just make up your own rules either change the menu wording or give your guest what the menu lays out. Anything else is DECEPTION! Hopefully these sly business practices will be corrected but for now I DON'T RECOMMEND. Try another fish and chicken joint they are...

This restaurant serving soul food is an absolute 5 out of 5! Every dish is top-tier, fresh, and tastes like it's made by a true southern mother. It's a must-try! The collard greens, Mac and cheese, potato salad, French fries and all the sides are exactly like how it’s made on the thanksgiving table with love!
