Tonight I went to Supergeil with some friends and it was a great experience. The restaurant has a really cool overall vibe. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. The food all came very quickly which was nice, too. We ordered many dishes and shared everything. Everything that I had was my first ever experience trying it before. Below is an outline of everything that I had.
Hummus: Very tasty! I enjoyed the hummus a lot. It came with one piece of Zaatar Pide so we ordered two additional pieces.
Zaatar Pide: as mentioned above, we ordered some additional pieces for the hummus (and the Summer Squash Labneh). The Zaatar Pide was a nice soft bread.
Summer Squash Labneh: this was okay. Not bad, just wasn’t quite my cup of tea. I preferred the hummus. This also came with potato chips which was interesting. We also used the Zaatar Pide with this and again, it was fine.
Georgian Soup Dumplings: Very delicious! These were very good and the meat filling had some good flavor. The dumplings weren’t that “soupy” so it was perfectly fine to cut them in half so we aren’t trying to pop a full dumpling in your mouth. These were my favorite item from the Breads & Bites section of the menu.
Eggplant Fries: I didn’t care for these at all. I took one bite and they just weren’t for me. Others enjoyed them and found them to be a bit of a unique taste but very sweet. I can’t really place what I didn’t like, they just were not my cup of tea.
Kraut-Chi: Very good! I’m a big fan of kimchi, so it definitely reminded me of that. A decent kick, but it was a nice heat in my opinion.
Lemon Dill Potatoes: I don’t really care for lemon or dill, but, these potatoes were pretty solid. Definitely a bit more lemony than I would personally like, but, not bad by any means.
Lamb + Beef Döner: this was by favorite my favorite dinner item that I had tonight. Absolutely incredible. The hot sauce definitely has a kick to it, but, I loved it. If you don’t like spice, I wouldn’t recommend this. But, I loved it and I could eat this daily. The döners are massive! It’s definitely a very large sandwich and pretty filling.
Burnt Sugar Tres Leches: This could be the best dessert that I have ever had. The burnt caramel was incredible and we all agreed that we could have just drank it straight. The cake was delicious, too. On top of the whipped cream was pomegranate seeds which was a surprised but gave a nice additional flavor.
If I were to have a meal all to myself, I’d just go with the Lamb + Beef Döner as it is quite a lot of food. If I’m feeling a dessert, the Burnt Sugar Tres Leches is an absolute hit!
Overall, a really cool vibe, great and friendly service, and some...
Read moreI went to this restaurant with a group of 11 girls. We had a reservation and overall we were very impressed by the food and atmosphere. For background knowledge: I was meeting some of the girls for the first time, some had to leave right after they ate, and some were just having a drink and no food. I am also a server myself and very understanding of all things server/restaurant related.
But after some drinks had already come to the table, we went to get our food order taken and the server stated that we either had to put the bill all on one or split it evenly. I can absolutely understand why this is asked because it can be difficult and time-consuming to split many bills in a large group. But because of our situation, we did not feel comfortable with this route. I asked if we could split the checks and that’s when things went downhill. Our server was very very kind, but we could tell that it was frustrating for the her and not what the restaurant wanted us to do. I know the restaurant is most likely trying to set a precedent with bills, but there has to be some flexibility for your customers. If that flexibility is needed, then servers should be able to handle it seamlessly.
We were then asked to either write down each of our individual orders or circle them on the one itemized receipt that was printed. She then took our cards back and forth to the iPad many times as she split things up. I asked what system they use and I was told TOAST - which is what I use as a server too (but in Grand Rapids). I will be honest, I was a little shocked with how difficult it was becoming because I am very aware of how to split up bills through the system even without seat numbers. TOAST is very user-friendly and is a system that is widely used in Michigan, so I would assume that theirs worked much like what I am familiar with. To us as the customer, it felt very much like we were asking for too much and becoming difficult even though we were very patient and willing to assist with any questions about what we ordered.
I would suggest that those making a reservation are told about how bills are handled prior to them coming in. I made a new reservation just to see if maybe the person who made the initial one missed some verbiage about bills, but it was not on Open Table. If it had been on there, we would have been prepared.
Overall, the food was amazing, the atmosphere bomb, but the headache over the bills made things a little awkward and...
Read moreThe food was amazing but it didn’t make up for the awful service and treatment from management. The waitress seemed really annoyed to be working and was quite inattentive. She forgot a couple of things we ordered. The spiced coffee was the worst drink I’ve ever had. It wasn’t a drink that was a flavor profile I didn’t like so that I could’ve given it to someone else at my table. It was simply not drinkable. When I politely told the waitress that the drink was not good and if I could switch it out for another drink, I tried to hand it back to her and she just stared at me like I was asking her to give me a foot massage. I have never sent anything back at a restaurant before this. It is not unreasonable to ask for something that I’m paying for to be exchanged or remade (which she didn’t offer). I really feel that it was made incorrectly because I couldn’t taste the coffee at all. At the end of the night when the bill came, I had still been charged for it. We had ordered 7 drinks, 5 sides/ apps, and 4 individual entrees. The restaurant had definitely made their money back from the terrible drink I sent back. Since I didn’t feel comfortable communicating with our waitress at that point, I went to the bar to ask if I could get the first drink I ordered taken off since it was not good. I made sure to let the manager know how great the food and other drinks were before respectfully asking if the drink could be taken off my bill. He took my bill to take off the drink and then turned around to chastise me before doing so. He said “Just to be clear, the drink wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t to your taste. It’s actually our most ordered drink.” He could’ve just said “No, we don’t do that. You order it, you pay for it.” That would’ve been better than the total lack of humility and rudeness he displayed. It was so strange that he had to make sure I knew that there was no way someone on staff could’ve made a mistake (as all humans do), that my palette was not sophisticated enough for their drink, and/ or he could’ve at least asked me what I didn’t like about it. Next time I’m willing to spend more than $160 on a dinner I’ll be going somewhere where I don’t feel...
