Victory Liquor & Soulfood — Restaurant in Detroit

I've been looking for a good soul food joint for some time now. Everyone who has southern family has their own take on what good soul food is. Family recipes handed down over generations, no alterations whatsoever. I was skeptical about this place, it being inside of a store and all, but I must say I wasn't disappointed. Is it just like my mamaws cooking from Kentucky? No, but its a step in the right direction. I got meatloaf, fried porkchops, yams, mac and cheese, greens, and mashed potatoes. Meatloaf was hearty, but I'm tired of packet gravy. Fried pork chops were good, but the skin was soggy after having been in an enclosed container for the delivery process. Maybe a quick turn in the broiler would've crisped them back up. Yams were tasty, doesn't take much to make those good. Not a fan of mac & cheese but I always get it to see if I can recommend it to my friends who do. Last but not least, the mashed potatoes were better than expected. Plain, nice liquor/ party store. As soon as I walk over to the counter to look at the food I was graciously greeted by two beautiful young ladies. I asked was everything that I saw on display is all of what they had and she said yes. So I decided to get a half baked chicken and a half barbecue baked chicken macaroni cheese and greens. Well, I also ordered me a fried pork chop and one chicken tender and I also got a square of cornbread 😃 Man let me tell you... Everything was Dynomite!! The food was definitely good and at a very reasonable price everything that I've ordered was all under $20 and I had enough to buy me a can of pop. I definitely will be returned if not later on today to give me another meal and I just want to tell those girls thank you for the best service I've had in a long time they were nice and curious generous and very helpful and I got a a drink...

I have traveled all over this country including Hawaii and Alaska, and this is absolutely one of the best top three discoveries I have ever found in all of these years of travel!. We were in Detroit staying at a Walmart parking lot in the motor coach and the name of this place caught my eye. I ordered three entrees all to myself and used Uber Eats to deliver them. I've never had restaurant food of this kind that is this good! It was so good I had to go get a picture of the motor coach in front of the building and to add to my surprise this hidden jem sits in what appears to be a bad part of town in a small little strip mall next to a check cashing place of all places!
