We've heard about Gonzales Burger since our first visit to the RGV, but that was back in May when the place closes down after the Winter Texas season, so we weren't able to try it then. It was surprising to pull up to a non-descript building with the only indication that there was a business of any sort located there being the open/closed sign hanging on the door and a few cars parked in front. They are not open after about 2 or whenever the fresh ground beef runs out. There were 4-5 people behind the open counter waiting on customers and then making the food but never saw any of them move out to the dining room to wipe down a table or two, all of which were dirty and sticky. There is a roll of paper towels on each table (one was empty) and rather than go to the restroom to wet a towel down, used a bit of my $2 bottle of water to at least wipe a clean spot down for us. There is no decor - Costco tables, folding chairs, and a few taxidermy heads hanging on the walls - which is beneficial to them, not having to spend money on extraneous expenses, but please try to clean tables or provide cleaning supplies so your customers can clean it for you. The hamburger is freshly ground, and the patties are absolutely huge, but you pay for them! We got 1 hamburger, 1 bacon cheeseburger, an order of fries & onion rings ($10 for 7 rings and a handful of fries), and the $2 bottle of water. Our bill was $38.90. We've now experienced Gonzales Burgers and will most likely never go back. They've established a reputation that works for them, but for us, the novelty wore off fast. Too many other...
Read moreIt's on the Texas bucket list so that's why we went to try it but it's kinda of a let down got there at 1045 and they opened at 11 we were the third people to order it's a simple place and plan layout they got going burgers are big but 16 dollars for a Bacon cheeseburger is kinda pricey especially when it doesn't come with fries or a drink there method of getting things done and getting there orders out is not the best they precook all there meats and stack em on the grill and they start this after 11 which if there going to prep like this it should be done before they open so with this in mind be prepared to wait about 45 mins to an hour for ur order staff seemed like robots and didn't want to be there they have signs saying condiments are limited which if your spending 50 dollars on two bacon cheeseburgers and order of fries mixed with onion rings and three can cokes and a jalapeno you would think you can get enough ketchup to put on your burgers and fries don't get me wrong the food was good but not good enough to pay all that money and be swatting away flies while you eat I've worked in a lot of restaurants and never would I pride myself in making people wait so long for a hamburger it was a disappointment the least to say if you don't mind the hour wait swatting flies and paying way to much for a hamburger that go have a try like I said the food was good but not good enough to make you over look...
Read moreTHIS JOINT EARNS AN F!!!! I was very disappointed with my experience at Gonzales Burgers. I had my hearts desire for one of their cheeseburgers and tried to purchase one during my last trip to the LRGV. Well...... after waiting 45 minutes for my order..... I was informed they had run out of meat and were going to grind some more. Not only was I disappointed but was not in the mood to invest another 30 minutes plus while I waited for my order. NO HAMBURGER IS WORTH A 1.5 HOUR WAIT!!! They didn’t realize that they had more orders than meat patties long before the last of the burgers was served????? DUH.... I got my money back and left after wasting almost an hour of my time and still needing to find lunch..... I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN! No burger is worth the wait they put you through in this “HOLE IN THE WALL”Cash only burger joint..... by the way.... WHY CASH ONLY? Maybe the IRS should do an audit on this joint!!! ADIOS GONZALEZ...
