I grew up nearby and Newick's was always a staple whenever we went to the coast, so it only made sense to bring my own family when we came to visit from Pennsylvania. There was a short wait to be seated so we hung out in the lobby and my son was fascinated by the lobster tank in the lobby. The hostess was a very sweet young woman who pulled out a live lobster for him to say "hello" to. That kind of extra service really makes a place like Newick's stand out as something special. The food was predictably great. Fresh fried seafood is hard to beat. My 2 year old son loved the original clam chowder. I challenged myself to eat the fisherman's platter for 2 by myself. My wife had a fried seafood combo. All were done to perfection. The wait staff was polite and quick and checked on us regularly. The view of the bay was beautiful at sunset. Our waitress did tell us that our order of 2 dozen oysters would be slow prior to us continuing to order and we did end up canceling it after completing our meal without the oysters arriving, but that did not subtract from our night. The only part of the meal that was lacking was the steamer clams, which were clam-shaped but completely flavorless. They weren't bad, just devoid of taste to the point that eating them was a weird sensation. Almost like they'd been left to sit in fresh water and lost all of their ocean flavor. But that was a very minor complaint. If you are the New Hampshire seacoast I'd recommend Newick's as part of the quintessential singer experience. They're really good about seating large groups too.

Newick's is an institution. This is the place for your annual whole lobster. The space is vast and not much changed so you get a good dose of nostalgia. Don't expect fussy presentations and precious portions - it's heaps for size and paper plates. There are some post Covid upgrades - they added a large bar area which is where we always sit. There's a nice collection of regulars at the bar on taco/ margarita Tuesday. Its a good venue for family gatherings, association meetings and large groups - casual and easy going. I try not to eat a lot of fried food, but that's the specialty here - smelts being my favorite, and the home made potato chips are amazing - dip them in blue cheese dressing. Onion rings are great and typically massive. On the healthy side, I often get the steamers. They have a big selection of liquor now and an entire room of ice cream. For dessert, we've taken to getting a dish of ice cream and ordering a cordial or other tasty distilled beverage to pour over it. The staff is dedicated, fun and kind, some have been there for decades like their customers. If you're passing through the area it's an iconic New England experience.

I remember when Newick’s was the small take out stand to the huge place it is today on Dover Point Road. The location is pretty and you can enjoy the salt breeze from the bay and watch boats pass the restaurant. While this was not my first time here, it has been several years since I visited. I went with the onion rings and they were delicious…a huge portion for sharing but as I was solo this time I did my best. For my entrée I decided on the Baked Stuffed Haddock, a New England staple with a haddock filet stuffed with homemade buttery Ritz Cracker crumb stuffing. Unfortunately the dish was a bit dry so I asked for some additional drawn butter to moisten it up. The coleslaw was good while the rice pilaf was just “ok”. Service was excellent and everyone took great care of me along with all of the other diners I observed here. Overall a good meal and a little high in price, but Newick’s is an icon for the New England seacoast and is well worth a visit and a meal.

Always a great place for seafood. We ate at one of the tables in the new outdoor dining area that was set up due to Covid restrictions. They are offering both indoor & outdoor seating at this time. Our servers did a great job, especially considering all of the running back and forth they have to do to make the outdoor seating work; we're very appreciative of their hard work! Only 6 people are allowed per table, so if you have a large crew like we did, you will have to sit separately. We knew this before we went, and were cool with it, as it's understandable. They are offering a limited menu, but it has all the standard seafood favorites. I had the hot buttered lobster roll, which was very good. My mom had fried haddock, which she shared, and it was so good I wished I'd ordered that instead! The rest of the family had streamed lobster, fried clams, and fried shrimp, and there were no complaints!

I stopped by here on my way from DownEast Maine to Logan airport. It wasn't too far off the 95. This is a place my dad took me to when I was a teenager and where we scarfed the fried clams with bellies. Since my visit to Maine had only resulted in clam strips, I wanted some bellies before I would go back to belly-less California, so I foolishly inquired once more whether I could go home again. And afai, Wolfe was right: The over- breaded fare I ordered to go made me question whether I really like fried clams after all, sort of like a disappointing visit to Dunkin donuts. Afterwards, my granite state peeps assured me that Newicks has gone way downhill, which I should have guessed as much when I saw the gift shoppe. Can any good restaurant have a gift shoppe? Riverworks, Riverhouse, Makris, Park Lunch, and Weathervane were all suggested as better place for fried clams.
