Kickapoo Tea Room — Restaurant in Downs

This is a beautiful tea room in a restored church. The stenciled floor and stained glass windows are gorgeous.I was not overly impressed with the food. I’ve been to many tea rooms before and the food presentation was just ok. The sandwich that I chose was good but nothing outstanding . The second layer was two little potato teuf-teuf and the third layer a pot de crème. $22.50 before tax and tip for basically a sandwich, a small potato muffin and little dessert. I’m not sure if the desserts were homemade but they did not seem to be anything remarkable. I am only writing this review in hopes that they might be more generous in the amount of food served and have a more impressive presentation of the food. I want them to have a successful business. This is a perfect location for a tea room! The old church is beautiful inside and out. Perfect ambiance for a tea room. My mom and I went here and it was a lovely outing. We had the quiche, salad, and lemon pound cake— all delicious! We also loved the jasmine green tea. Our server was one of the owners, Lisa, and she is a lovely person. She graciously answered a few questions about their renovation process and you could tell creating the perfect tearoom was a labor of love for these two ladies. We dined here as a group with two children (both 4 years old). We assumed children were welcome as they advertise a children’s menu. To keep the girls entertained I gave them coloring books and markers (Crayola Ultra-Washable). The floor manager came over and asked us if she could put a cloth under their coloring so they didn’t “ruin her table”. This honestly made us feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome it ruined the lunch.
