I am mighty glad we ended up here. Good drinks, good food, good service, good place.
Drinkswise, they don't serve liquor, which was disappointing for me, as I was in dire need of a stronger libation. But they do have a fine selection of wines as well as draft and local beers, and, as I recall, all the drinkers liked their drinks.
Foodwise, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals—except for one in our party who has a tendency to nit-pick her food (especially fish, which she ordered here) even whilst swearing up and down that she is not a picky eater! Anyway, I'd say don't worry about her or the Idaho Trout. My brother and I both ordered the Bistro Burger, medium rare, which we both agreed was rather outstanding. It is bougie wagyu beef with a local beehive cheddar (good for bees, finally diversifying) and kimchi ketchup on the side. It is a fine ketchup, really, and that is not something that's easy for me to admit given all my indefatigable work as a staunch anti-ketchup activist. I think others in our party ordered the Marsala and the Meatballs, and they too were happily satisfied. I really wanted the Prawn Ceviche, but it is listed as a "small plate," and whilst I adore a good ceviche, I abhor small portions. I also wanted to try the scallop special they had on, and I seriously regret not springing for the Beef Tenderloin Surf and Turf with Bloody Mary Prawns, local oyster mushrooms, and chimichurri—GOOD GOD, WHAT A MOUTHFUL—but unfortunately my miserly genes got the better of me. Oh well, like I said, great burg.
As for the staff, good heavens, what a gang of sweet ladies, from the knowledgeable half-naked cowgirl who served us so patiently to the dedicated young lady in the corner who unwittingly taught me how to properly wrap silverware in a large cloth napkin. The owner / manager was the star of the show, though, a super welcoming and positive woman who chatted with us before and after our meal, checked in on us during, answered our questions, and even took care to dial the lights down to just the right level of dim evening ambiance. I also took note of la guitarra sabrosa dancing out the speakers above. Sometimes little things go a long way, and I sincerely appreciate the attention to detail and mood.
Overall, I feel like Forage Bistro is a well-polished enterprise and experience worthy of your patronage. Bien hecho y...
Read moreI used to love this place. I’d go there twice if not three times a week. I figured I was a valued customer as if I were to go once I’d bring over $1000 in revenue to them not including tips. That’s just once a week. Last Sunday I came for brunch and tried the biscuits and gravy because I was told to try it. I made sure to tip on a to-go roger of $3. I called later that night to get another to go order for dinner but I was told that they had no time for to-go orders but that I could come sit at the bar and eat. This was an obvious disrespect to my support of the business and it frustrated me very much as they are one of the only restaurants open on Sunday. No matter what I said I was told that I could not get a to-go order but I could sit at the bar. An obvious attempt at the extra $10 in drinks and tips.... I cannot believe how unprofessional and irresponsible that is. As a co owner of a towing company I couldn’t imagine an employee turning down a tow. I would probably fire them. Revenue is revenue and if it inconveniences your employees well that’s why they get a paycheck. Work can’t be easy all the time. As another detail I agreed to my earlier meal to wait 30 minutes while they prepared it. I agreed because I’m not an impatient jerk. But to be so blatantly disrespectful of a patron who has done nothing but praise your meals to all my friends and family and support your business with more regular dining than I’m sure your average patron shows. I called tonight Friday March 30th 8:24 PM and my first question was if they were to busy to take my to go order. I wasn’t even planning on going but as a test I had to be sure. Of course he replies with yes no to-go orders. Absolutely dispicable. Your greed has become obvious and I’ll frequent big hole bbq for my regular dining as I’m already a regular there and they often comp me a beer because I’m such a supporter of what they do and can see that they enjoy a much better business practice that this gross front of a hipster diner that wants your money not your business. They can’t understand that putting the latter in front of the former is where the money...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing food. We arrived early and in no hurry. The way it should be for a place like this. Take your time and enjoy your experience. By the time we left, there was a wait. Be patient as this is a little town gem with a great staff. It takes a bit to get your order and food, but well worth the wait. We started with their house salad. It had organic micro greens from a local farm, peppitas, dates, shaved jicama and kambucha dressing. appetizer: Artichoke and Fennel with fresh made grain bread and house made pitas. I had the Organic Chicken Saltimbocca with Toasted Butternut Squash and a SageCream Sauce that was out of this world, topped with micro greens and a yummy lemon jam Or marmalade (I would put it over my ice cream at home) My hubby had the Osso Bucco (best he’s ever had) served with a Polenta that made our mouths water. All the desserts sounded so good but we decided on the Vanilla Bean Pancetta with Berries and the Lemon Cream/custard pie. Our neighbors across from us couldn’t decide and we entertained them with our choices and as we drooled over our choice of dishes. Because we arrived early and there weren’t many customers, our server was patient and spent extra time chatting about the food, chefs, history and food choices. We observed they worked hard to keep everyone happy as people arrived. If you can make a reservation, I highly recommend it. There is outside seating and is family friendly. We will...
