I’ve heard soooo many good things about this place and the online reviews are very good so I was really looking forward to trying it. I have to believe that the 5-star reviews are for the huge portions because my meal wasn’t that good. I had biscuits with country gravy with eggs and hashbrowns. Sadly it had very little flavor. The country gravy was pretty much unseasoned and had no sausage in it (which is normally the best part of the dish). The hashbrowns were cooked ok but also had no flavor. Usually when you have hashbrowns you’d expect a nice buttery flavor and/or salt/seasoning but there was none so they just tasted like shredded potatoes. The service was great. But there is a stale smell to the place and a sticky floor as you walk through the restaurant. I was also surprised at how expensive it was (after hearing for so long how reasonable the prices were especially relative to the portion size). However, it was $25 for the dish, a soda, and tip. It could heave been so much better if there was just more flavor to it; especially considering everything was...
Read moreI love Big Daddy's. The portions are giant, the food is good. It's a dive and that's why I like it! I look forward to coming here every time I visit Duluth (I'm from the cities). You can custom your burger, ask for sides and sauces, and the specials are a knockout price. Some people say it's a bit on the pricey side... I can't believe they make money at all for how much food they stack on your plate. A burger and fries of that size in the cities would be way more expensive. They cut the fries there. My wife doesn't like home-cut fries (says they're too droopy) but I love them.
The burger will come out well done unless you specify you'd like it more pink (which I recommend). My new favorite is the breakfast burger with peanut butter, egg, bacon, on french toast. Sounds weird but it's great! The club sandwich is big and the turkey is thick cut. Big Daddy burger is a winner. I'd pass on the smother burger. The chili and cheese are just ok and it covers the taste of anything else. Not exactly haut cuisine but I think it's the best burger place north of...
Read moreWas hungry for a burger and saw this place on google. Read some good reviews a got excited to try "best burgers in Duluth" so me and my boyfriend went for dinner. We like finding hidden gems when it comes to food.
THE GOOD: The burgers were big. One order of fries equal 3 or 4 at other places. Price good for portions.
THE BAD: Big disappointment! Burgers were overcooked, bland and dry. Homemade fries were overcooked...almost burnt. Homemade fries should not be hard and dark rusty brown colored. I couldn't even eat my burger. I tried to eat some fries...mistake. I felt sick the rest of the night. I wasn't going to ask for another one either....we just wanted to get out of there. Our waitress must of been new considering she wasn't very attentive to anyone other than the cook. Lack of customer service. The other waitress was very good from what we observed. Place could be a bit cleaner. Had food stuck to my shoe when we left. We will not be returning customers. We'll be sticking to The Breeze, Eagles Nest and Five Guys for...
