There is something about breweries and pizza that just goes hand in hand. So when I found out that Lake Superior Brewing was serving up NY brick oven pizza, I had to try it out.
Before I get to the pizza, I want to touch on the interior design. Whoever designed the inside of this place absolutely nailed it. The wood accents and seating, warm lighting, and white color scheme really gave this place a down to earth vibe. The art on the walls and mural on the front of the building were nice touches as well. They were really able to repurpose the place compared to what it used to be. Now, it has been transformed into this beautiful community oriented brewery and restaurant where people can enjoy the company of others while drinking and eating great food.
As you walk in, you can see them cooking pizza and churning out fresh bread with their open concept cooking area. My friend and I were trying a few spots today so we only ordered the Classic Cheese pizza. My general rule of thumb is to start with the cheese pizza. The reason being is that you must be able to execute the fundamentals before I explore the menu further. I typically prefer a thinner pie with a crunchy crust and this pizza matched my expectations. I prefer this lighter style since you don't feel too full after finishing it. What stood out the most for me though was the sauce. It was distinctive, tangy, and unlike anything I have had in the area. There was also a perfect cheese to sauce ratio so every bite was spot on. I personally would have liked the bottom to be a bit more crispy since it was a tad soft. However, since we got there right around open, the ovens may have still been warming up. Overall, the pizza was delicious, and I will definitely stop back in the future since I love everything...
Read more4/7/25, Thanks for your reply. A couple of comments: âWord to the wiseâ back at you, supporting Breweries does not only mean purchasing as many items from a Brewery as you can. Supporting Breweries also includes patrons providing a Brewery with constructive criticism without the Brewery getting defensive?? As for you asking why I did not mention your beer? I didnât want to but I will. I had the Sir Duluth Oatmeal Stout, I give it a 3 star average rating at best. Have a nice day! 3/31/25 This review is based solely on the beer & atmosphere as we did not eat. I am strong supporter of breweries as my wife & I always visit a brewery when traveling. One of the reason we do so is to connect & talk to other people in an environment that is comfortable & accommodating. Unfortunately, that was not the case at Lake Superior Brewery. Why? 1) When first entering, you cannot seat yourself, one must âget in lineâ, very structured 2) NO FREE SAMPLES WHEN DECIDING ON WHAT BEER TO CHOOSE. Definitely not accommodating to those beer enthusiasts that want to support Lake Superior Brewery 3) Feels more like a formal restaurant, not like a real brewery. 7+ other breweries in the Duluth area that do not charge for a sample...
Read moreI made the mistake of ordering pizza from this place, which boasts about paying its employees well, yet can't seem to get the basics right. What I received was a burnt pizza that looked like it had been cooked in a campfire, not an oven.
When I called to get this mess sorted out, I was first told to waste my time and gas driving 20 minutes back to "bring it back." Seriously? Then, the so-called "owner" gets on the phone and asks for a photo, only to argue that the charred mess on my pizza is "normal." How about a lesson in customer service instead of gaslighting your customers about what's acceptable?
Instead of making things right, this place wants to hold onto every last penny, even at the cost of losing customers. Well, congratulationsâyou've lost this one, and I'll make sure everyone knows. For a restaurant that charges these prices, you'd think they'd know how to treat a customer. Clearly not.
If you're considering ordering from here, save your money and your taste budsâgo somewhere that actually cares about quality and customer satisfaction. This...
