Sammy's Pizza & Deli - Lakeside — Restaurant in Duluth

ALWAYS DELIGHTED, NEVER DISSAPOINTED!!! I'm writing this review as almost an apology. I apologize that I strayed one time from being a loyal Sammy's customer. And, I paid for it. I ordered a Pizza Hut pizza for delivery from the London Rd store. Thought I would try to save some money and use their coupon deal, afterall, it was just a cheese pizza. Who could mess up a cheese pizza? Sammy's always uses the freshest ingredients, delivers when they say it will be delivered, it arrives at the door steam'n hot, and cooked to a golden perfection. I have never ever had anything less than an OUTSTANDING PIZZA from Sammy's. The Pizza Hut pizza was delivered about 45 minutes later then they estimated. When I called to check on it, all they could tell me is that it had left the building (hm, sounds like Elvis). When it arrived, it was nasty. Overcooked, nearly burnt, looked like it was sitting under the heat lamp for quite some time and took a long ride with the delivery boy in the back seat to the gas station and then maybe a friend's house before the delivery boy remembered he had a pizza to deliver. Folks, you get what you pay for!! I SAMMY's ROCKS!!! I will never...

Update: new owners. This is not Sammy's Lakeside of old. It's different. Gone is the rice paper thin crust, now twice as thick as old. Edge crust is also double the thickness. New pizza sauce with slightly different taste. New cheeses that are not as greasy. Biggest change is pricing, it's big. Family size two toppings pizza is just north of $22.00. I ordered a two topping Family and a one topping Large and bill was $42.00 and change. This was second try of new owner. First try was 4 family pizzas, one sausage was delivered as a pepperoni, and close to $95.00. So you be the judge of the new owners. Me, I already miss the old Sammy's...

I just called ten minutes before close. Got an amazing pizza delivered when most places would tell me no. Plus, the pizza is amazing. Thanks Sammy's.

Edit: can't leave two reviews. Pizza still amazing. It is common in town for people to tell you that Sammy's is only good when you order from a particular location and my location would be Lakeside. Consistently hot perfect every time and one of the only delivery people who are nice enough to actually bring it to your door these days. Honestly how pizza delivery used to be and how it should always be. Again, thanks Sammy's.
