It's a Southern Thing - Ellis Crossings — Restaurant in Durham

I cant rate the food anything higher than a one, seeing as i didnt get to try it. I contacted the restaurant ahead of time because I was planning a brunch with a bunch of friends, and I am vegan. They told me they offered "several items that are vegan" and gave me a list of a few items that could be modified vegan, including the english muffins. I asked for confirmation that the english muffins were vegan (because usually, they contain milk). I was told they would check, but never heard back. Concerning since they told me with confidence that they were at first, but now dont know? I made the reservation anyway, trusting that there would be other options anyway.

Upon the server coming to our table, I asked her what the options were since I was told there were PLENTY. She told me that nothing on the menu could be made vegan, including the items I was told could be... I asked her if she would confirm with the kitchen, and she did. She came back and said that she confirmed with the kitchen nothing can be made vegan... I asked about the potatoes and she said they were "probably made with butter". Again, I am not sure where the miscommunication is here because she had just checked with the kitchen.. so where is this confusion stemming from. Anyway, I left the restaurant hungry and had to settle for eating fries from another place for breakfast. The staff there was very kind, and the rest of my party enjoyed their food, so 3 stars for that. My hope is that there can be more transparency on allergens in their food, so dairy/egg allergies, vegetarians, and vegans alike can...

THIRD TIME IS A CHARM! And just like that I think I found my new favorite restaurant! We try something new every time. We tried catfish this time. It was outstanding along with everything else was outstanding! UPDATE!! We went back Today and the service went from 2 to 5. Our server was Alana and she is top tier. We ordered different foods today. The hot yaki wings, the patty melt burger, Mac n cheese, side salad and kids chicken bites with fries. Food is still amazing! Love the atmosphere. This place is perfect!! The food here is an absolute 10! Everything is well seasoned to perfection! We ordered the Honey Bourbon BBQ Wings (smoked) and I could have easily eaten them as the meal. The Steak burger with gravy, mashed potatoes and crispy Brussels sprouts. This was like a home cooked meal and grandma's house. The Jalapeno Fried Chicken sandwich with fries. This was classic delicious sandwich but not too much spice so if you have a low spice tolerance you can handle this. My ONLY complaint was that our server, CJ, kept getting missing. Now she is respectful but She was missing for so long I got concerned that something happened to her however the kitchen has a window and she was just standing there on her phone. One of our new favorite restaurants! The food was incredible. Seasoned perfectly, hot and fresh, speed of service was on point. Wonderful brunch options. We indulged in the Fried Waffle balls, which was a great spin to hushpuppies(my opinion) with the add sweetness from the syrup and honey butter, topped with the powdered sugar. We also had Fried Green Tomatoes which was scrumptious especially with the extra ranch even though it was supposed to be a dizzle lol per manager. So good. For our entrees, we had 2 orders of the smoked chicken wings that came with our choice of side-Fries, my daughter and her dad said it was really good. I had the blackened chicken quesadilla which was hot and fresh. Lastly for dessert we had Banana Pudding. So yummy. My only preference with that is fresh cookies for a crunchy texture on top. Let's talk about the outstanding service we received also🙌🏾. The guys at the establishment went above and beyond to accommodate us in surprising our daughter with seeing her Dad and it was her birthday.
