Yankee Tavern — Restaurant in Eagan

food was good and I'm a picky eater and so is bf, i like darker quieter places, my bf and I finally decided to try the place after driving on occasion past it in Eagan for over 10 years for the first time yesterday.

place is darker and quieter although when we ate their yesterday for the first time, as others have said. service is okay, not great like most places we are regulars are but not horrible, either.

i'm glad I didn't read truthfully the review of it first so I didn't have any preconceived notions, I think our server did about me being a larger person but not a big eater and a polite and picky one at that, she wasn't downright rude, more condescending and a bit passive aggressive and at the time we were seated in back booth, with a big party with a lot of kids who made a big mess who were just leaving.

the 5 stars is for the food and ambience and it being a comfortable place for me to sit and hang for a spell and now I know to go during off hours and the waitress no longer being a regular staff, if I took into service, I probably which normally I do, I probably would've...

Sorry Yankee Tavern. My experience was not good at all. Service was slow from the start. It took 18 mins for our food to arrive, and when it did, an error was made on the meal I ordered, but the server brought it to me anyway hoping I would just accept it. I didn't. He took it back to get it corrected while my husband had to eat his food or else it would get cold. The server came back a minute later and apologized stating they "would take care of this". Apparently, we had different ideas about what that meant. I thought they were taking it off the bill, but that wasn't the case. Regardless, when my food did come I found it to be exceptionally salty. I was afraid, though, to finish my drink because I was nervous about how long it would take to get a refill... which was never offered. In the end, I know this place is new and the servers are new. I can certainly forgive slow/bad service if the food were super good, but I didn't think that was the case.The final straw was receiving the bill with no pen. Had to use my own. Big learning curve...

I ordered cheese curds, the Chicago brisket sandwich, and tater tots. The curds were good, but I would have liked them a little more crisp. Great flavor, and the dipping sauce, some kind of avocado verde, was a bit hot/spicy, just enough to contrast with the 'coolness' of the avocado. I hadn't realized that the peppers on the sandwich were HOT, and my mouth was on fire, and I had tears trying to fall, as I tried to eat the otherwise very tasty sandwich. Staff came by and noticed the state I was in, and made me a new sandwich, sans peppers. THAT was delicious! And they let my Bonus Kid take the first sandwich home; he had no problem with hot and spicy! The tater tots were perfect, crispy outside and soft inside. I'd been wanting to stop at Yankee Tavern for years, and I'm so glad I finally did! Every time I've passed by, the parking lot has had many cars; always busy. I will be back again, to try more of their menu. And I will be reading the menu much more closely, and requesting no hot peppers. Great restaurant, lovely staff....
