Twin pines is a staple of the east haven community and its always a pleasure to eat at as so much of the staff know you if your a frequent diner with them like any small town diner. The insides a bit like any diner but that's not a bad thing per say, Just that you know what to expect.
My only gripe with twin pines is the menu. This place has a GIANT menu. From staple breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers, steaks, salads, seafood, pasta dishes, Greek foods, tons and tons and tons. 4 to 5 pages of everything plus the kitchen sink. Sometimes the variety is nice but most any cook knows that a huge menu means its hard to be consistent across all of it. For example sometimes you order a simple 3 egg omelet with cheese and its rubber or its watery or over done. its RARE that any one meal eaten here will be consistently good. that being said there are a few standbys that are rarely bad. roast beef Au Jus, and burgers are the only things that Ive ever ordered over my myriad of visits that don't vary wildly on quality.
i do however recommend their desserts. they bake them fresh, they hardly have a single dessert i don't like. their cheesecake is absolutely hands down the BEST Ive ever had in my life. so creamy and smooth.
i love Twin pines for the people. and when i want a simple meal or a dessert. but honestly because of inconsistent quality of the other food on the main menu, things even like turkey clubs are bad because you can tell to cut cost or corners they freeze a SHIT load of sliced turkey and then microwave it to defrost it which dries it out SO much. and part of that is that huge menu. when you have to stock food for a MASSIVE menu. you cut corners on quality...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting, which was a recommendation from my sister. We set our to enjoy breakfast early this morning. Upon arrival, we were greeted pleasantly and was directed to sit wherever. We took our seats, and the server asked what we would like to drink. My sister asked for the pumpkin coffee, and I asked for mint tea. We received our beverages, but my sister was given regular coffee instead of pumpkin coffee. She didn't say anything to avoid any potential issues. It took a little long before we were asked for our order. I ordered a Belgian Waffle with chicken fingers. The server never informed me that one of their waffle makers were not working, so we waited unreasonably longer for our food. My sister and I asked for a second coffee and tea, at which time I brought to the server's attention my sister received the wrong coffee, and she shared she was unaware. Long story short, my sister finally received the correct coffee, but I never got my second cup of tea. In spite of all of this, I will say she did have, for the most part, a pleasant attitude except for the coffee situation. My sister is a regular customer here, but I am not and was not a good impression for my experience. However, I do understand people have off days, but I felt a little slighted because other customers came in after us and received more attention and faster service than we did. Again, everyone has off days. It's just something to think about to ensure all customers receive the same...
Read moreGlad to see that they are back! Twin Pines is a good place to get an inexpensive diner dinner. Don't expect five-star dining, but do expect polite, prompt service and good food that is a good value for what it costs.
Twin Pines has stayed open for takeout throughout the coronavirus crisis, as they have been a mainstay in the community for decades. Recently, they reopened for dining. We went for the first time last night.
They have picnic tables outside, but that was out of the question because it was raining. As one enters the restaurant, one will see a touchless alcohol foam dispenser at the entrance. Upon entering, one sees that sections of booths across from one another are roped off. Staff clean seats and tables between patrons.
Because staff are required to wear masks, I couldn't see who was taking care of us last night. I believe it was Tammy, but whichever waitress it was, she recognized us as frequent, if not regular, customers. She greeted us by saying, "Welcome back," and took good care of us, and didn't rush us.
It may be worth noting that the service has gotten much better over the past 5 or 10 years. It had gone down for a while but obviously the restaurants standard for staff has gone up.
We always try to support the community, and tend to choose independent businesses over chains. I'm glad that we...
