Hot Z Pizza — Restaurant in East Hempfield Township

I usually do leave reviews — not for every bad experience, but when something genuinely stands out, I think it’s worth sharing.

Last night, shortly before closing, I placed a pickup order at the Landisville Hot Z Pizza. I hadn’t been there in a while, but it used to be one of my favorite spots, so I figured I’d give it another shot.

When I called, the person answered with a quick “Is this for pickup or delivery?” — which is fine. But as I gave my order, her tone felt rushed and a bit impatient, like she didn’t really want to be dealing with it. It wasn’t super rude, but it definitely didn’t feel welcoming either.

When I arrived, she was still on the phone with another customer. As she finished the call, I could hear her huffing and puffing — like she was clearly annoyed or frustrated. Then she walked over to the register, looked at me, and said “Can I help you?” in the same kind of dry, moody tone. No eye contact, no smile, no greeting — just straight to the point, with zero warmth.

I had planned to grab a drink too, but honestly, the way she was acting made me want to just get my food and leave. She handed me my sub and fries in a to-go bag, and that was it — no “your order’s ready,” no “have a good night,” nothing.

The food was fine, but the attitude really threw off the experience. Customer service matters — especially at the counter — and unfortunately, it missed the mark this time.

This a great story. I actually love this place because when I come to Pennsylvania this is where I get my pizza So tonight I was with my cousin and we were going to have a girls night with pizza and the great FAMOUS cheese bacon RANCH fries with ranch dressing so I ordered the fries. Of course it says in the menu that it includes ranch dressing but apparently it doesn’t because I didn’t push a button. So when we got our order there was no ranch dressing. Guess what? I ordered the damn cheese fries especially for the ranch dressing. So when I called back, I tried to tell them I wanted the ranch dressing because that’s why I ordered the bacon cheese fries. Anyhow, when I asked them to drop them off the ranch dressing for the bacon, ranch cheese fries they’re famous bacon, ranch cheese fries they said OK will drop it off. Then I got a phone message saying they couldn’t do it because the ranch was not included, and I owed them $.75. When I called back the guy, the manager then went rambling about saying that they had trouble because everybody was asking for way too many requests and they just couldn’t add them because that was way too much too much information and everybody was asking for specialties. I told him he was babbling and that’s when he hung up on me. I guess ranch dressing was way too much for them. Don’t order the famous Ranch cheese bacon fries if you want ranch dressing because they don’t include it on the delivery.

We went to eat after a softball game on a Sunday afternoon. There were 4 kids and 5 adults and they were willing to accommodate us by putting tables together in the bar dining area. It was a very laid back atmosphere and the kids felt very comfortable even though we were in the bar area. Service was prompt and the food came out hot! I personally ordered the chicken cheesesteak (with modifications) with the beer battered fries, and I must say it was pretty good! They also got all of my requests correct considering how busy the kitchen must have been since it seemed like they had a pretty packed house.

Hot Z Pizza has a cool atmosphere and an array of choices of food, plus you have your choice of dining. They have a large bar area with big screen TVs, pool tables, and plenty of table seating. Or if you’re not so much into the bar scene or want a more relaxed meal, they have a separate dining area away from the bar that you could sit and dine in. For those warmer days/nights, they even offer a large deck area with seating for outside dining. Parking wasn’t a huge problem.
