El Pulpito SEAFOOD — Restaurant in Edinburg

Brand new and spotless, this is a great little spot to grab dinner. Service was prompt and attentive, and everything we ordered was really good.

With a name like El Pulpito, I was hoping for tacos de pulpo, but the menu only had two octopus options. Luckily, the molcajete de pulpo chicharrón came with tortillas, so I made my own tacos—and they were awesome. The taste, texture, and presentation were perfect. It’s listed as an appetizer, but it works as a full entrée if you’re not a heavy eater.

My spouse ordered the fried shrimp (the only seafood she eats), and it was excellent. Our bar for fried shrimp has always been a tie between Viva and Wana Wana on SPI, but this place easily surpassed both. We haven’t tried Joe’s yet, so no judgment there.

Prices run a little high in my opinion. I skipped the grilled pulpo because it was over $20, and while that may just be the going rate, it felt a bit steep.

The only real downside was the drinks. My margarita felt like a light pour, even after ordering a double. Flavor-wise, the margarita and Mexican lollipop were overly sweet, though the Bloody Mary was very good. Next time I’ll definitely check out their happy hour ($2 and $4 drafts, according to our server).

Great place to go if you haven't tried seafood! It's all fresh and it was a great first experience of eating stuffed crab. My partner got the fried octopus with the guacamole. I loved this place, the food was delicious, great ambiance and the staff was very friendly and attentive.
