Date of Visit: August 10, 2024 Occasion: Dinner with a group of six
Ambiance and Setting: The restaurant's atmosphere was overwhelmingly loud, making it difficult to hear the waitress or converse with others at the table. The noise came not only from the patrons but also from the bar staff. Despite this, we were seated immediately upon arrival, and the view of the lush grass of the Harbor Pines Golf Course was incredible.
Service: Our waitress, Savannah, was kind and attentive throughout the meal. We didn't have to wait long for our food, but the establishment's policy of not allowing the next course to be served until all plates were returned was inconvenient. This policy, in my opinion seemed to stem from a lack of sufficient dishware, which is an area that could use improvement.
Food and Drinks: Drinks: I ordered a Bulliet Old Fashion, though the waitress was initially unsure if they had Bulliet bourbon despite it being on the menu.
Appetizers: The cauliflower bites had great spice and flavor.
Main Courses: The cheesesteak was overly salty, and the lime chicken lacked flavor and was overcooked. On the positive side, the cowboy steak and fries were delicious. However, the chef's unwillingness to accommodate simple substitutions, such as fries for potatoes with the filet, was disappointing and makes a return visit unlikely.
Value for Money: The prices were comparable to those of a private course club or a higher-end steakhouse, which was unexpected for an off-island, off-the-beaten-path bar and dining establishment.
Overall Experience: Nothing stood out as above average, leading to a 2-star rating from me. While I wouldn't recommend The Roost as a destination for dinner or a date night, it could be a great 19th hole stop after a fun day...
Read moreThis was our first time at the Roost- Friday night at 6pm. We went to hear the live music- Tony Pontari was awesome as usual.
I got the jalapeño blueberry wings and a Waldorf chicken salad sandwich and several blueberry margaritas on special. Everything was outstanding but the wings were just WOW!
Our server, Gwen, was the best server we have had in a long time. She was helpful, funny, quick, and efficient. I think what made for a pleasant experience, was that the Roost wasn’t understaffed like most restaurants these days- where everything is chaotic and stressful. It was nice to sit back, relax and enjoy our time there. We will...
Read moreThe Roost has become one of our favorites now. An unexpected surprise among the Harbor Pines Golf Course, this quaint restaurant/event hall/pub has fantastic food, amazingly attentive staff and has been consistent time and time again. The view overlooking the golf course is beautiful. The management and servers pay attention to every detail and always check on your experience. I worry about making them too popular and spoiling my little hideaway, but they deserve to be cited as a great choice for lunch, dinner, an event or just a quick cocktail. So happy we...
