I don't want to be mean so I'll just state facts. A group of about 12 of us went here for a birthday celebration. Reservations were made ahead of time so they were aware there was a group coming. It took over half an hour before the waitress came to take our food orders, then another hour and a half before the food came out.
I ordered a KC Strip steak and baked potato. I didn't realize until my cousin pointed it out that the waitress didn't ask how I wanted it cooked, which got me worried. When it came out, it was obvious I got a much cheaper cut of meat than a KC Strip. It was thin, fatty, grisly, and had zero seasoning. Like not even a grain of salt. Being a thin cut of meat it was of course well done, which is not how I like my steak.
The salad that came with the meal was just brown lettuce and dressing, nothing else. My baked potato had no butter. It was just a cooked potato. The green beans were over cooked and mushy, again, with zero seasoning. I ended up only eating a few bites then pushing my plate away. Which was unfortunate because I was really really hungry.
My daughter's chicken strips weren't any better. They seemed to be hand breaded, which sounds good until you taste it and realize there is, again, zero seasoning in the breading. Plus the chicken was dry. My daughter picked it apart and only ate a few bites.
I'll just say that I was very disappointed. This was my first time eating at this place and from the name I was expecting a great steak. Oh well, I just...
Read moreI was recently a member of a hunting party just a few miles outside of El Dorado. We asked our guide where was a good place to eat in town and he immediately said "If you looking for a good steak, True Lies is the best place in town." He also said the steaks were sourced from local ranchers, which I think is great. Well, we went to try it out and he was speaking the truth! This place had one of the better steaks I've had from a restaurant. It was cooked just like I ordered and the seasoning they used was very flavorful. The price wasn't really that far off what I have generally seen in central NC, and it comes with two sides and a salad. If you grew up in the south like I have, they also have sweet tea without having to use the packets, which don't usually work for me. The waitress was very attentive and friendly, and I really liked the atmosphere. Now, I really like western style decor, and I think this place definitely fits the bill. We liked the food so good that we went back the following evening and ordered their "famous chicken fried steak"...I highly recommend that as well. For entertainment they have a couple of pool tables, a dance floor, and a band was setting up as we were finishing our dinner. The bar area also has a few screens to watch sports, and has an open view to the dance floor. I would personally recommend giving this place a try if you're...
Read moreIf you've ever thought, "Where can I get a lip-smacking chicken fried steak during the day and then dance off those calories with a good ol' hoedown by night?" Well, mosey on down to the True Lies Ranch Hand Cafe & Steakhouse in El Dorado, KS.
Now, I've had my fair share of chicken fried steaks, from the soggy mess that your Aunt Bertha calls a "family recipe" to the upscale ones that come with a side of pretension. But let me tell you, the hand-breaded masterpiece at True Lies? Itâs like they took a chicken, introduced it to a steak, and threw a deep-frying party in their honor. It's crispy, it's tender, it's a flavor rodeo happening right in your mouth!
But wait, there's more! Once you're done licking your plate clean (and no judgment if you actually do), get ready to stomp, twirl, and two-step the night away. The dance hall vibe is the perfect blend of country charm and footloose fun. Even if your dancing skills are limited to the "awkward uncle at a wedding" level, you'll fit right in.
In short, if you're looking for a place where calories and two-step coexist in perfect harmony, True Lies Ranch Hand Cafe & Steakhouse is your jam. Come for the steak, stay for the hoedown, and leave with a belly full of memories and possibly a new...
