Well, it is one of two restaurants in town. Regardless, it's only fair to judge it on its own merit... Which isn't much. This restaurant understands there's no point in spending exorbitant amounts of cash on decorating well, or getting good comfortable chairs and tables, or in making a good menu with good ingredients. Is this one of those "gems in a small town"? - not really. But being the only other sit-down place to eat aside from the Carlito's down the street, you have to set your expectations right. I've been here 4 times and every meal I've had is either just average or slightly below. And the prices are not " we know we're not working with much so we'll adjust accordingly." Expect to pay just as high as you'd pay in a bigger town. The service is not that "Texas hospitality" super nice kind of service you'd expect, either. This diner offers no more than just the bare minimum - just food, and not very good...

Pump City Diner has plenty of close parking nearby. They have a large selection on the menu, breakfast plates, BBQ, burgers you name it. Nothing spectacular but considering your options it's really good. I had the meat lovers breakfast plate. Too much for me to finish it all & I can eat alot. Recommend & will go back. Staff was pleasant and even came out to have us pick our food up as to not have it cool down. Salad was crisp with onions, and vine ripe red tomatoes. Hamburger steak cooked to perfection, green beans were made with real bacon and slice onions. Bacon cheddar fries were to die for, fresh and not greasy.
