I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ray's Diner for breakfast, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The warm and inviting ambiance, coupled with friendly and attentive service, set the stage for a memorable morning. One dish that truly stood out was the chilaquiles. Served steaming hot, these traditional Mexican breakfast nachos were an absolute delight for the taste buds. The crispy tortilla chips were smothered in a tangy and flavorsome salsa, perfectly complemented by the melted cheese and a touch of creamy sour cream. The addition of tender shreds of chicken or perfectly cooked eggs added an extra layer of satisfaction. Each bite was a symphony of textures and flavors, providing a harmonious blend of spice and comfort. The portion size was generous, ensuring that every hungry stomach was satisfied. The balance of ingredients was well-executed, creating a dish that was both hearty and satisfying. The presentation was simple yet appealing, allowing the vibrant colors and aromatic aromas to speak for themselves. Though the chilaquiles stole the show, it is worth mentioning that Ray's Diner offers a diverse breakfast menu, catering to a wide range of preferences. From classic favorites like pancakes and omelets to healthier options like avocado toast, there is something for everyone. In conclusion, if you find yourself in need of a flavorful breakfast to start your day, Ray's Diner is definitely worth a visit. Their chilaquiles, in particular, are a standout dish that will leave you craving more. With its inviting atmosphere and friendly staff, this diner is a hidden gem for breakfast lovers.

Ray’s Diner in Elgin is a “Must Visit”. It is very rare for me to give any establishment a perfect score, but Ray’s has done the impossible and earned every last word in this review. This establishment is run like a very well oiled machine. From the time you walk in, to the time you are seated to the time it takes for your food to arrive, the staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcomed. The food….some of the best breakfast I have eaten anywhere. I had the country fried steak and eggs, my wife had a chorizo omlette and my son had the biscuit and gravy skillet. The portions were generous and the quality was top notch. You can tell the cooks take pride in the food they serve, and there’s only two of them back there hustling to get the orders out. The food was absolutely delicious. I have never had sausage gravy that had hints of smokey bacon flavor in it. It was definitely complimentary of the country fried steak. The atmosphere was cozy. Every inch of this restaurant was used effectively and while it might seem overwhelming at first, the end result is a space for making thousands upon thousands happy on a daily basis. If you like small town diners, this is definitely that but in a bigger city. Give Ray’s Diner a whirl, you’ll be glad you did.

Fantastic Thanksgiving Breakfast at Ray’s Diner! We had the absolute pleasure of starting our Thanksgiving Day at Ray’s Diner in Elgin, just outside of Chicago, and it was perfect in every way. The warm, welcoming atmosphere made us feel right at home, and the staff treated us like family from the moment we walked in. The breakfast was outstanding—everything was cooked to perfection, from the fluffy pancakes to the perfectly crispy bacon. You can tell they take pride in their food, and it shows in the flavors. The coffee was rich and hot, the portions were generous, and everything came out quickly, even on a busy holiday morning. Ray’s Diner truly embodies the spirit of Thanksgiving—great food, kind people, and a sense of community. If you’re in the area, this is a must-visit spot. We can’t wait to come back for another meal. Thank you, Ray’s, for making our holiday morning so special!

New owner is horrible and will run Rays into the ground. We have been very loyal customers for 15+ years. We have gone from going 2-3 times a month to 2-3 times a year. He has raised prices at least twice since taking over. Now he is making some items that used to come with your meal al a carte. The servers are still awesome and the food is still good but not worth what they are now charging So we stopped in last week for the first time in a year. My skirt steak skillet was HORRIBLE, one pic shows how it came out which it looks great. Other pic is how much I threw away. I forced myself to eat that much simply due to cost. The steak was fatty and had ZERO flavor. The Wife and I had 2 skillets and 1/2 order of B&G, she had coffee, I had a pop. $51 before tip. We will never spend another dime here. I will compliment the staff again. They have always went above and beyond.

What a wonderful little place, serving some of the best food at reasonable prices. I actually lowered my expectations when I decided to visit this place. To my surprise, it was some of the best food and service that I had in a very long time. The owner is a hands on easy going super friendly and approachable human being. The wait staff is phenomenal, they are on top of everything. They treat and greet everyone as if they were long time regular customers. We had the chicken rice cream soup, patty melt, the corn beef hash skillet and I was blown away by the taste and quality of the food. I can't wait to come back and try some of the other tasty items on their menu.
