I drove to this restaurant from Pittsburgh to Ellwood City because my sister is disabled to make it easier for her to celebrate my birthday. It was also father's day so I understand it was going to be busy. This restaurant doesn't take reservations and supposedly won't put your name on the list until the whole party is there. My sister arrived at about 12:45 but the whole party of 5 didn't arrived until 1:00. We were patiently waiting to be seated...people were walking in and getting seated...so at about 1:45 the person doing the seating said it was because only 4 can fit in booth so they were waiting for tables that can be pushed together. So she finally said, do you want to split up and take two booths. After 50 minutes of seeing everyone get seated except us, I said okay. On the way back to the booths, I see two tables that can be pushed together for 5 people so I asked if we can do that instead of being separated. She said, we will have to clean off the tables. I said okay. I went over to the tables, and another employee said these tables are for someone else. They were trying to seat a party of 5 that just walked in there (one of the employees came over to hug one of their party). I asked for a manager. A woman who said she was one of the managers came out. I explained the situation. She did not apologize or even offer a free dessert in spite of the fact we had waited 50 minutes and they were trying to seat someone who just walked in with the same number in their party. That is customer service 101. I couldn't believe how blatant her lack of concern was. I will never go back to this establishment since they do not value my business. I would recommend anyone thinking of going here to go to one of the many wonderful Italian restaurants available ...unless of course, you are friends with someone who works there and will get...
Read moreThis is really one of the very few sit down restaurants in Ellwood City. Their food is pretty good but they never change their menu and they don't have daily specials. They also don't have many options for diabetic family members. My mom can, pretty much, only get salads here because mostly everything else has pasta or bread in it. When she gets the salads usually the meat is very dry. We don't go here very often because of the lack of menu options for her and because the menu never changes. However, they have really good sauce here so if you're looking for pasta or pizza this is a good place to go. Their meatballs aren't very good though, they're always soggy tasting, so go for it if you like your meatballs soggy. Their food prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get, but be aware that they raised their prices but didn't change the prices on their menus in the restaurant so expect to pay higher prices than what you were expecting. The service is usually pretty good, most of them are nice as long as you don't go there 30 minutes before they close. If there's not many people in there close to when they close they rush you out the door so they can close up early. That happened to me once when my husband and I went there 45 minutes before they closed at 9 pm, and they got our orders wrong and rushed us along because they wanted to close early (not very professional). Other than that stuff, there's usually a wait, sometimes it's not long, other times it is, so if you're looking to get seated quickly I probably wouldn't go here. If you can put up with some of these minor inconveniences and a never changing menu then give the place a try and judge...
Read moreAlthough the food may be good, the service for take out has been terrible every single time we have attempted. You're lucky if the phone is answered, and most times I give up and call Vinnys. After my last experience, I will never go to Nico's again. I have a $10 gift certificate that was a gift and it will be given to someone who will use it.
I called for dinner take out for my family, ordered two chicken marsala dinners, two calzones, and a kids spaghetti. After giving them the allotted 30 minutes they asked for to prepare this, I came to pick up. I waited another twenty minutes before the cooks sent a poor waiter out to tell me that someone else had given away our order to the wrong person. They said they were making more chicken Marsala right then and he apologized. ANOTHER 20 minutes later they sent the same poor boy out to tell me they were out of chicken Marsala. They did however, have the calzones that were cold and soggy and even offered for me to have the child's spaghetti for free (how generous). No manager was available, nothing was done other than a free meal that probably cost them less than a dollar to make. I left with no dinner for myself or my husband and I, and I know my family will never step foot in that place again.
To the young boy who spoke with me both times, I am sorry you work in a place that puts you in such an uncomfortable spot when you had nothing to do with it. I applaud how you handled it, but the...
