Backroads Coffeehouse & Lunchboxx — Restaurant in Elmira Township

I’ve been to Backroads many, many times. It’s a cozy coffee shop in an unexpected location with good drinks and food options. My complaint is that the ownership isn’t very customer-service forward. We’ve had two experiences with the owner, where we had legitimate questions/complaints about the food and instead of offering a genuine apology (which is all we really were asking for) she got defensive and almost accusatory. Latest example, my gluten free toast came out with huge holes in it - clearly not their fault since they didn’t bake the bread, but instead of saying “I’m so sorry about that” or “I see that.. can I get you an extra slice?” She said “well, you try to find a different gluten free bread, let me know.” I’ve never been asked by a restaurant to source my own products, or reprimand me for pointing something obvious like that out. The prices get higher and higher, while the portion size gets smaller and smaller. I paid $10 for this item, which in the past had come on a nice large slice of bread nearly twice the size of this 4" x 2" piece I got today. To make it worse, once I got home and opened it I found a piece of black hair sticky out of the food. Disgusting. Previously I had to send back an item when I watched them reach into the food containers of tomatoes and feta with their bare hands to make my item. You should be using utensils to scoop these items if you decide not to wear gloves. A beautiful coffee shop on the inside but I can't justify going back here again. I’ve been coming here for a month since I found out about Backroads ! It is a very comfy, vibrant low key spot for some great drinks and pastries. I’ve tried almost all the pastries and the best ones are the chocolate croissant and muffins. Cinnamon rolls and Scones are alright, nothing crazy. Prices are ok too. The ambiance and vibe is perfect ! Whether your going for breakfast or to study it is a great coffee shop environment. Come out and check them out the staff is also very sweet. If it weren’t for the slightly high prices for the pastries and food it would be 5 stars. If your coming for your coffee it is 5 stars as they offer refills ! Great gem of...
