I was visiting from Texas a little over a week ago and happened upon this place. Having been raised close to Ely and having a Czech grandmother who made kolaches second to none, I have generally been very disappointed by most kolaches I have tried over the last 40 years (whether in Iowa or Texas). Most have way too much dough and too little filling. Although these kolaches have a larger amount of dough than I like, the flavor and texture is fantastic. In addition, as you can see, the filling is very generous and you can tell it did not come from a can. These are probably some of the best kolaches that I have ever purchased. The place is very clean and has seating inside. Their coffee selection is great and the flavors are wonderful. YOu will not miss Starbucks if you get your coffee here. Hope to visit when I am in Iowa next. I noticed a few people giving one star reviews because they ran out of baked goods. In Texas, the best brisket places start serving early and when they run out of brisket, they run out. So, that being said, you make every effort get there early. It is better to get fresh baked goods than something that is dry and hard.

I am visiting from Tampa, FL., and in Florida, no one knows what a kolache is. So on my visit back home, I would typically stop in to Sykora’s for a kolache. I discovered them to be closed and really wanted to find a kolache before heading back to Tampa. Someone mentioned My Moms Bakery in Ely. I am not disappointed. The kolaches were great and the service even better. I messaged them on Facebook Thursday evening. They responded immediately and I had an order of kolaches ready on Friday morning. Nicest staff working in the store. Highly recommend and will definitely be back myself.

This family run shop is everything a small town bakery should be. Since there very limited seating, I would plan to get your goods to go. You are going to greeted and served kindly by the staff. While I’ve enjoyed everything baked here, the kolaches are the best I’ve had EVER. The dough, the filling…perfection. To get the kolaches, you’ll need to be there before 8 am as they sell out every morning. If you do come later in the morning the quiche is very good-I’ve comforted myself more than once when the kolaches are sold out.

What a wonderful secret in the town of Ely! My daughter and I were out on a long Thanksgiving run on the Ely Trail and decided to stop in for the first time ever, when we were done. They were pretty sold out of in stock fresh baked goods, and were wrapping up delivery orders. The owners were so very kind and personable. We resigned ourselves that we would try their delicious treats another day. However, the owner offered us two Whoopie Pies that they had left and we were so grateful. They were just delicious and made our morning run that much better. We appreciate how they showed the spirit of Thanksgiving and have plans for a big order for Christmas Eve. Highly recommend this bakery as it not only has amazing treats, but awesome...

I watch these two come in at 10pm to bake all night for all of us. (Mind you they don’t go home between making and opening) They open up to the public at 6am then close at 11am. The hours they put in is absolutely insane to me, but I have never met a more devoted couple to their business. The love they put into what they make is so worth the wait. They only can make so much and put forth everything they can! I hope that if you missed out the first time you would take the time to try again or call in an order, you won’t be disappointed! I am so grateful their my neighboring business. And I will forever go out of my way to come to them for my coffee...
