BUYER BEWARE! CHARGE .50 TO USE CREDIT CARD. THIS IS ILLEGAL... ..SEE BELOW Credit Card Surcharges Connecticut law prohibits a business from charging a customer a surcharge for using one payment type (usually credit card) over another payment type (usually cash). However, the law does allow a business to offer a discount if a customer chooses to use one type of payment (e.g., cash) over another type of payment (e.g., credit card). Receiving the discount is not the same as adding a surcharge. As long as the discount policy is clearly written and presented to the customer and the final receipt shows a discount, it complies with Connecticut law.

A business cannot list the discounted price for using a preferred payment type in an advertisement (e.g. menu or price sticker) and then add a fee during the sale if another payment type is used. For example, a menu cannot list the โ€œcash priceโ€ for an item, but then charge you a fee if you pay by credit card. If the listed price does not match the price on your receipt because an additional fee has been added based on the payment type you used, you should remind the business that a surcharge cannot be charged based on your type of payment and seek a refund of the fee. It may be helpful to show this webpage to the business. Businesses can be penalized $500 per violation under Connecticut law for charging surcharges.

There are a few important exceptions to the surcharge law. Municipalities, government agencies, and courts are permitted to use surcharges. For example, you might be charged a surcharge if you pay a registration, fee, or fine with your town, a state agency, or a court.

Ways to protect yourself from unlawful surcharges:

Watch out for โ€œtransaction fees,โ€ โ€œprocessing fees,โ€ or โ€œconvenience fees.โ€ These might be hidden surcharges. Check the register, the menu, or your bill for a sign stating that a surcharge will be added if you do not pay with a preferred payment method. Remember, a business may give you a discount for paying by cash, it just cannot charge you a fee if you use a credit card. If a cash discount is being offered, a business must clearly notify customers to this discount. For in-person transaction, a notice must be prominently posted on the premises. For online transactions, including smartphone apps, a prominent notice must appear on screen prior to completing a transaction. Also, for verbal transactions (e.g., over the telephone) notice must be communicated prior to completion of the transaction. Ask the cashier, server, or other employee whether any additional fee will be charged if you pay with a credit card before you hand your card over. If a business does illegally add a surcharge, it is easier to avoid paying the charge than to try to get it refunded. See Connecticut General...

My partner and I went to Collins Creamery in Enfield, CT for the first time today 9-6-2022 and I wanted to go there because they won an ice cream competition through WFSB and I couldn't wait to try them out. TONS of choices and flavors to choose from and toppings. I had the sundae with chocolate with peanut butter cups and fudge and another flavor I forgot. My partner has a cone but I shamefully forgot what ice cream she choose. Anyways We absolutely LOOOVED what we ordered and what we got tasted AWESOME. A woman who was wearing a black shirt and had glasses I believe, and was very friendly and told us they make all the flavors and ice cream there on the farm and have 200 cows making the milk and whatnot. She was very nice and I congratulated her and the place for winning the ice cream competition that had them and 19 other ice cream places around CT competing. Anyways outstanding service and I def plan to be back. Oh and for anyone complaining about the prices? It's a farm and they have 200 cows they have to take care of and maintenance everything else. The prices were more than fine for the work they have to put into making the ice cream. The prices my partner and I had to pay were fine and wed glady give them more of our money for the amazing desert we had. EXCELLENT service. Again congratulations everyone at Collin's Creamery. You more than...

The Ice cream is really good. The brownie Sunday is excellent. They have about 15+ combos to choose from. The sundae comes with 3 scoops and is large. It can definitely be shared. You can ask for less. I like that they give you the optiom of soft serve or hard shell. We got hard shell because it was 90+ degress out and didn't want it to melt as fast.

They have large picnic tables with umbrellas that provide great shade. I was surprised to see that they had activities for kids. They have a wooden tractor that kids can play on. The tractor has a steering wheel and a slide. They also have corn hole and a picnic table with jumbo checker pieces; this was popular with the adults (this table does not have an umbrella).

Plenty of on site parking. We parked right next to the table we ate at which was is convenient when you have small children.

They have two porto potties which I personally do not like, but came in handy when my 3yr old had to use the restroom. They are located near the back away from the tables so there is some type of privacy. They were as clean as a Porto potty can be. There is literally nothing around but farm land so if you have to go at least...

The cashier was very unwelcoming and rude especially after I pronounced sorbet "sure-burt" instead of "sore-bay" . After making my order, she left it halfway inside for me to grab instead of handing it to me outside the window as most servers would do. As for the rasberry, I got a regular size and it was only half way filled up and the consistency was that of say a Magic Cup that you'd give the elderly or those with swallowing issues. I'm not used to that consistency since I eat sherbet all the time. My daughter's milkshake was good. But because of my experience and dislike of their product, I won't be returning to this location.

Collins Creamery, located on a bucolic hilltop, is a perfect place to grab an afternoon scoop of homemade ice cream. The carrot cake ice cream had a creamy, flavorful carrot cake flavored base studded with small pieces of cake. While a small cone (pictured here) was a touch pricey at $4, the creamy richness of the ice cream left me feeling satisfied. Will definitely be back to try their other flavors (such as brownie batter ice cream with Oreo pieces)(deciding on just one was so hard)

This place is located at a nice farm and the drive to this place was really nice. The ice cream is good and the farm atmosphere adds to it. We did have the double chocolate and the strawberry stampede both were good and quantity was also good. They do have two cats that walk around and will play with you if you are a cat person.
