Super disappointing Farm to Mountain dinner. Booked a while ago for dinner on 8/13/2022 and figured this would be a fantastic way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. For the price of $160.00 per person we had pretty high expectations. We requested a window seat on the reservation which we did not get. Ok, that's fine as I assume they were fully booked and probably everyone wanted a window seat to watch the sunset. However, our table was right behind the reception and so close to the other table I had to lean sideways to let someone from the other table out of thier chair so they could get out from behind their table. The atmosphere left a lot to be desired. It was noisy with K-Pop music over the speakers and just seemed a little chaotic. Ok, that's still fine, I can deal. Wait staff were nice, but just generally not on point and not what I would expect when you pay that much for a meal. College kids working for the summer with not a whole lot of fine dining service experience. There was no wine list. I asked and the server said there was a chardonnay, a pinot, and a merlot, but didn't recommend any of them, yet when I looked back toward the kitchen there was an entire wine rack fill of different bottles. If you are truely trying to showcase what Washington has to offer you did a poor job in the wine selection. In fact there wasn't even a beverage or cocktail menu. The watermelon salad was interesting. The carrot soup was cold which was fine, but very unexpected. You should probably state that on the menu so people know what to expect. Both my husband and I got the sturgeon with lemon bur blanc caper sauce and lentils. This was probably the most dissapointing part of the meal...the main course. The skin was left on and the fish was mushy. There were so many lentils on the plate that it just seemed like they were trying to fill the space. The lentils were also very dry and the whole plate was barely warm. The menu said dessert was a buttermilk panna cota with a marionberry(?) glaze and fresh berries. There were no fresh berries and the "glaze" was a thick layer of geletin covering the Panna Cota that was served in a mason jar. The whole meal was just a dissapointment. Even if you account for the price of the gondola ticket (about $40) and gratuity at $20, there is no way that was a $100 per person meal. I realize there is a cost and expense to get the ingredients up the mountain, but honestly it should have been a much better experience both from the staff and the food. I also realize that each person's palet and taste preferences are different, and while the food wasnt terrible (except the main couse) it just wasn't that great, and certainly not good enough to pay that much for. I've eaten at Summit House in the past and was expecting a much finer dining experience similar to what I had experienced in the past. I feel like we basically wasted $320 on a mediocre meal at best which kind of put a damper on our anniversary celebration. If you are going to charge that much you should at least have top notch servers, a good wine list to go with the food, better atmosphere, and make sure the main course is hot.
In reading this some might ask why we didn't say something while we were there. Here is why. I'm not the type of person to cause a scene in a restaurant. I've worked in the hospitality business and served tables. Had we said anything it would have caused a scene due to our proximity to the reception area and how close we were to other tables. I won't eat there again. There are a lot of other restaurants with views that I think are just as spectacular with a lot better food, service, and atmosphere for the price or even...
Read moreEverything was low quality. The fries that came with our sandwiches were dry and room temperature. After speaking with the server and having her touch the fries we asked for a hotter batch. The next batch came out 2 degrees warmer, and was also dry and room temperature. They weren’t warm or hot, they were room temperature. My family didn’t care if it was made hot in the microwave at this point, my family just wanted something warm or hot, but we didn't send it back due the fact that we don't like to send things back to the kitchen wherever we go. Even the burgers were room temperature. At least microwave the burgers before sending them out room temperature. Nasty! Disappointed in the service as we have multiple restaurants in the greater Seattle area. We later found out that a cook was missing. But that’s no excuse for room temp and dry fries. I also asked for a huckleberry cider and was informed there wasn't any, and the server brought me a can of blackberry cider. She inquired if I wanted it while placing 3 fingers on the lid of the drink, and tapping it. She kept her fingers on the top, while holding it in front of us. It was like she didn’t want to serve us. It was like she hated every moment coming to our table. Well, you don't scare me. I took the drink and wiped her nastiness off the lid. Popped the can and poured it in my glass. Shortly after, on the outside patio, we found out they had huckleberry cider. The lady serving on the outside patio was the artist style tattoos was cool! She was smart, intelligent, and provided amazing service. I tipped her more than the server in the restaurant and I purchased less. The server in the restaurant, the brunette, I believe her name started with a T, wasn’t taught appropriate mannerisms when in the service profession? Maybe she was just angry, but it appeared a lot of workers weren’t happy there. It was seen and tasted.
Whatever you don’t get the Ale beer made locally. The server in the restaurant recommended it and it was skunk! That’s why my wife and I changed to can on the inside of the restaurant for flavor. We had a total of 4 drinks between the two of us in a 3 hour period.
Until they get things figured out, I suggest packing some food.
We were table 13 and checked out around 12:37 and 12:44pm on July 3rd, 2024.
In the restaurant, I paid $95.67 for gas station quality food. I still tipped the server $20 because I don’t fault people for things they haven’t learned or experienced yet. We are hopeful she grows...
Read moreWe used to have lovely experiences here, but we were horrified by this restaurant when we visited today... It all started with us asking to move tables. We were told no. We were a little annoyed because there were quite a few empty spots in the patio.
Our food comes out. The servers deliver it to the wrong tables. They keep checking other tables. We flagged them down after we realized that they were holding our exact order.
Then, our server ignored us during the entire meal... She went to the tables around us and asked how their meals were going, but simply walked by ours and said, "You have food, good." Never bothered to stop by once during our meal to inquire, but stopped everywhere else to do so. Why? I haven't a clue. We were being polite, so I genuinely didn't understand why she ignored us. Maybe our annoyance was showing.
At one point, my mom ordered a beer. She received it in a chipped glass. She took a sip and then noticed it and notified another waitress... Who curtly said, "Okay" and then took the drink inside and just poured it into a new cup that had a bug in it. Needless to say, my mom didn't touch the "new" cup of beer. We've worked service jobs. When a glass is chipped, you don't serve drinks in it. But if you do and a customer notifies you, you should be giving them a new beverage because for all we know, there could be glass shards in the drink. And for goodness sake, don't return a drink with a bug inside it.
At the end of our meal, we finally managed to flag down our actual server (who btw, only dropped by because she had our check.) My mom asked her to please take the beer off of our tab because she didn't touch it beyond those few sips. Our server said, "I'm so sorry. Okay." And then left and didn't return for the next 10 minutes. During that ten minutes, servers kept coming by and trying to take our dishes, which still had food in them. My dad got tired of waiting and ended up talking to the floor manager, who handled our bill very professionally.
We were so disappointed with today's visit. My dad usually tips really well. We'll even leave 10% for shoddy service because we know servers depend on it. You REALLY have to push us to tip nothing. We tipped...
