La Fonda del Sol Restaurant & Catering — Restaurant in Espanola

Ate here on a Friday afternoon about 4:30 PM, there were two other customers. We were seated and attended to quickly but after that try as our young waiter did, things went down hill quickly. Bartender came out promoting the steak dinner. My wife ordered it. I had the enchilada plate. Baked potatoes were not ready we were told so she opted for fries which were right out of the Ore Ida frozen bag--AWFUL. Her steak was to be well done still very moist with juices flowing on top - not good cut of meat, marbled and tough. Enchilada plate bland, flat and not what you get at other good New Mexican restaurants. To their credit my wife did somewhat enjoy her margarita and Corona beer I ordered came with iced mug. The drinks may have softened the blow of the tasteless bland food we were served. As we finished we were offered pecan pie which we regretted after taking a couple of bites. It was horrible with soft pecans and a very awful tasting filling. Adjustment was made on our bill because of the pecan pie which we returned and we were not charged for it. Cashier lady did admit that it was two to three days old. Maybe this place is under new ownership or management but it sure did not live up to all the 3+Star ratings it receives here by others for us. We spent over $50 here plus tip (It was not the waiters fault the food was so bad) but came away feeling we had been had. If I could give it a NO STAR...

I recently dined at La Fonda del Sol Restaurant and had an overall delightful experience. The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a perfect place for a gathering.

The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the exceptional customer service. The staff were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a pleasant dining experience.

However, there was one aspect that left me disappointed. Upon receiving the bill, I noticed a $22.95 charge for gratuity. We were a party of five, and at no point did I see on the menu or anywhere else that there would be an automatic gratuity charge for a party of this size. While I understand that this might be a policy, clear communication would have been appreciated.

Despite this hiccup, I still enjoyed my time at La Fonda del Sol Restaurant and would consider returning. A small suggestion would be to make such charges more transparent to avoid any surprises for future customers.

I tried to speak to the manager but Paola said no manager was on-site. Nevertheless, the charge was removed and I did tip the male waiter $15.00, he was...

Food was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The atmosphere was a typical Mexican restaurant nothing standing out. The service was awful. Waiter had an attitude, when asked “which Chile is better red or green” he responded with “most customers get Xmas” with an attitude. Like that’s not what was asked. When asked which option was better again with an attitude he said “most people get option 1”. Again not what was asked. Never checked on our table. Never refilled our drinks. Never brought the check or said to check out up front. Menu states many options come with beans AND rice. No one got beans only rice for those who were suppose to get both sides. And they added their 15% gratuity automatically because there was 8 people(3 were kids) in the party. Waiter didn’t deserve a penny. Would I go again? For takeout I would. But I would never sit inside and pay to receive trash...
