Ivoryton Tavern — Restaurant in Essex

I am surprised none of the other reviews mention this, but ivoryton tavern is cash only. They can afford 2 new POS systems for food ordering but can't take a card? The menu online is also different from what they have in the restaurant. The burger was decent but, didn't have the juice you would think a large medium rare burger would have. The fries are just frozen, if you're going to have a menu or restaurant that is focused on burgers, make some homemade fries. Also, don't charge .50 cents for bbq sauce, don't Nickle and dime customers for everything.

In response to the owner: I looked over your website several times on mobile and desktop versions and on your incorrect pricing on your online menu and still no mention of cash only. Also, if you don't know your menu is focused on burgers I highly suggest a different line of work. Yes you have other items, but your main focus is burgers, you literally have a picture of a burger on your websites homepage and it also says, "voted best burgers on the shoreline by new haven readers". In addition, claiming you can't afford a new pos system is not a good look at all. What else can't you afford then? Cleaning supplies? quality meats? I highly suggest if you're going to deal with the public you learn to embrace criticism. Maybe you could afford those things and have a more successful business, if you were open more and took cards, like blue hound right...

Last night I called around 4:50 to place a to-go order at the Ivoryton Tavern, a younger sounding woman answered the phone and I told her I wanted to place a to go order.. the woman on the phone said "hold on a moment" and put the phone down. We could hear talking from the bar in the background we waited on the phone for four minutes and kept saying "helloo, hello?" into the phone to hopefully get someone to hear us. NOTHING. we got so upset we hung up gave it a few minutes tried to call back at 4:58pm. The phone went to the busy answering machine since the lady kept the phone off the hook. We gave up, we were very upset, my boyfriend and I wanted to try the food from Ivoryton Tavern, but after that rude approach we are never going to order here again. For the heck of it we called around 6:30pm that night, the phone was still off the hook.. If you don't want to take "to go orders" just say so, don't leave customers especially NEW ONES in the dark. I wish i knew the girls name, she needs to be talked to by management on how to properly answer the phone and treat customers!!!! Poor communication and laziness no way to run a business. We called back at 8pm for the last time just to see if the phone was back on, it was... how pathetic though that it...

I went in to get a drink. A Blue Hawaiian, very common drink. She didn’t even know how to make that. Even still I told her how to make it, I drank it, then left a 50% tip because I don’t drink much and knew I wasn’t going to have another. Now next day I’m told I’m not allowed there all because i know someone that works in the kitchen. Even though I sat there drank my drink and left I was a “distraction.” Extremely poor business decision as I planned on coming in with more people to have some food and drinks again today. I can see now why the business is failing so badly that they need to close down at random times due to staff shortage and not enough money being made. The owner is a terrible person, the staff is rude and unqualified, and the food is honestly terrible and not worth the money.
